Oldies/surprising?

Many of us believed Oldies stations' exodus from the format would begin in earnest after the news of CBS-FM and WJMK ten days ago. And last week, we lost no Oldies stations nor did we get any new JACK stations.

Thoughts?

Amen? Once the rest of the Spring books are out, we'll have to see.

Here's hoping the Oldies bretheren (and sisteren) can enjoy a sigh
of relief.

I'm not in the business, but it seems that most major programming changes are made in January, June, and September.

I am very surprised! That being said, my hunch is the CBS-FM/JMK changes planted the seeds for more oldies stations to flip. It might have been a week of meetings and planning, we could see the actual flips in the weeks to come.

Re: Oldies/surprising?Bob-FM Slipped

I have heard that here in Austin, Bob-FM slipped to #2 just behind Country KASE. Bob was a solid #1 in the last book. Maybe the shine is starting to wear thin.

Bob took over what was Oldies 103.5 on August 20, 1984.

Those format changes caught a lot of people by surprise. As someone else noted, I'm sure there will be some changes after the spring book comes out...but it takes longer than a week to get a new format in place.

I wonder how many of these Jack stations will still be around this time next year.

Bob-FM Slipped

but the reality is there isn't a station in any market in the country that doesn't "slip" a little. And, #2 is one heckuva lot higher than 95% of the stations in Austin, so I wouldn't view that they've slipped as any sign that the "shine is wearing thin". Stations go up, they go down. Doesn't mean they're not successful (as much as we in Oldies would wish in our dreams).
