Maybe olides 100.3 shold come back as an on line station.

As most of you know NY’s heritage Fm WCBS flipped to Jack fm from oldies.
And loyal pissed off listeners were out side the station picketing. Now that’s what I call P1 listeners. LOL

Anyway, the massive egos (Infinity management) actually listened and brought back WCBS FM (oldies) but as an on-line station that sounds pretty good.

I’ve spent some time listening to WCBS FM online and would you believe their liners say “ Take us with you on your ipod” “load up your mp3 player with WCBS FM”

http://www.wcbsfm.com

Is this the future of radio, from real time listening to time adjusted?

And will WCBS FM sill get ratings?

Bob Dylan said - “Times they are a-changin”

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam And admit that the waters
Around you have grown And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone. If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone For the times
they are a-changin'.

Is it really worth it? Even as an online station, they won't get half as many listeners as they originally did. The whole online thing is joke, in my opinion.<P ID="signature">______________

Online listening is rated by Aribtron and CC online is # 3 behind AOL.

The online thing is not that bad. My ISP provides cd quality commercial free streaming music channels and the quality is pretty good. On occasion I lose content for a second because of packet loss, and it’s no worse than losing radio while driving through a tunnel. I can even play pd and build my own personal play list.

As Bill Gates said “computers will keep getting smaller.”
Imagine a super-fast-powerful computer the size a small boom box, run on cheap a batteries, hooked up with wireless wi-fi internet. What a scary combination for radio and what’s really scary is that prediction closer than we know.

Also prices for broadband will continue to come down and someday fpl and the gas company will offer broadband service too.

WCBS would be great with the original jocks, now it’s just oldies music and their moniker played after every song, it’s a bit much and my guess is the whole thing is an experiment.

Re: Oldies in HD streams!

Watch out for the multiple HD streams coming soon. That's where all the niche formats will end up. It's already happening, and as HD radio gets more popular thee will be all sorts of specialty formats popping up.

Imagine CC or Infinity putting together an All Star talent lineup for each niche format. It could easilly be done, and it would fill the format holes in many markets with an ad-hoc network runnig the "All Star" format.

Not to mention great opportunities for new talent as well..and some imaging work for your humble announcer (me)
