Oldies

Does anyone think that there is a hole for oldies in the lower Hudson Valley and even parts of Northwest New Jersey? According to WBPM's coverage pattern, it looks like the station would fade out by the time you get to Middletown.

There are already enough AC's in this market, so I think Fox 96.7 should flip back to oldies and bring Fox 103.1 along with it.

Thoughts?

1220 WGNY-AM Newburgh and 1490 WDLC-AM Port Jervis already carry the oldies format with Joe Manglass from 6-10AM and ABC's Oldies Radio the rest of the day.
Edited by ChrisConfalone on 04/13/06 12:55 AM.

I doubt many people are listening. Music on FM would be much more successful.

If you go to this website:www.wgny.netYou would see the station listed as "Hudson Valley Oldies" on 1220 AM and 1200 AM. 1200 AM isn't on the air yet, but the main page was blank. According to Scott Fybush back in October:Sunrise Broadcasting has calls for its new 1200 construction permit in Highland, near Poughkeepsie, and they're awfully familiar: that permit now bears the same WJGK calls that were on the never-built 1200 CP in Kingston, which Sunrise surrendered in order to win the grant in Highland. If both Cool 92.9 and Cruisin' 93.5 fails soon, why bothered put an oldies station on AM, because oldies should work on AM than FM does. AM goes to an older demo format and FM goes to a younger demo format.

When will everyone learn Radio is all about trends and $$. As has been discussed very much so over the last year, Oldies is an old (pun intended) and dying trend. (rock isnt too far behind) Even CBS 101 is gone. Locally, Oldies 97? Gone. It's done. Oldies glory days are over on terrestial radio. As for Fox? never happen. The only thing I could see is splitting the signal and making it Fox Country 96.7. That would work. Otherwise, leave Fox alone. I like Bob O in the mornings on both sides. Seems to work better.

You're right! Oldies is a dying format. Cool 92.9 and Cruisin' 93.5 are the two stations still playing oldies. I don't see it changing anytime soon because of the lost of WCBS-FM back on June 3rd of last year and they kept those two oldies stations in the Hudson Valley on the air. According to the fall ratings, I saw that Cool 92.9 gain up a bit, because it's a dying trend. With Rick McCaffery doing mornings everyday, except the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on Friday nights, come on. Will see if the two stations will last before oldies will disappear soon if the spring ratings comes out.

Are you anti-oldies or something? Who says Cool 92.9 and Cruisin' 93.5 are failing? They're not making any decisions based on WCBS FM.
