Olivia Fierro going to Las Vegas?

The interesting thing here is, despite Belo knowing that Olivia is off to Vegas, that they still laid off Dan, Brad, and Kristine. Keeping this in mind, they really eliminated 4 on-air positions. Or, perhaps, they will hire a young, cheap reporter to backfill one on-air position.

So, the rumor is that Tess will be back soon to replace Olivia on weekday GMAZ. Thankfully, Tess is a "true" morning person. If Tess catches on, could they get rid of Tara possibly when her next contract is up for reneral???. Carey Pena is doing a credible job (really has worked on the "lisp" issue and sounds MUCH better) on weekend GMAZ.

Well I think this is a shrewd move on Olivia's part. I believe she can see KTVK crumbling around her and realizing she could be next on the chopping block. Here is an opportunity to go to station that is affiliated with a major network (FOX). I wish her well. I think the glory days of KTVK and independent stations have long passed, to echo others comments on this board.

If Olivia Fierro does leave KTVK, I wish her good luck because she does seem energetic every morning. It would be another big loss for Arizona's Family.

Tess Rafols made her debut back this weekend from maternity leave. Working weekend mornings from 7-9 is one thing, but to do it 5 days a week from 4:30 to 9 is something else. I wonder if Tess, with preemie triplets, would want that assignment?

Actually, it's 7-10 on weekend am's! ;)

Tess seemed a bit tired this past weekend. I'm sure dealing with triplets would be tough! I agree that weekend am's seem like the best assignment for her. I'm sure that there are more friends and family available to help out with the babies.

Wednesday 8 April, Fierro wasn't on. Javier Soto didn't say he was "in for Olivia" during his two introductions. When Scott Pasmore was talking to Chris & Amy from Mix 96.9 they mentioned they will miss Olivia.

I wasn't watching all of the newscast from 4:30-6:00 AM so I don't know if there was an official announcement or did Fierro sign off on Tuesday. Her profile is still on AZFamily.com

Does anyone have any idea?

Mentioned on Monday's show that she was leaving for KVVU Fox5 Las Vegas. Her last GMAZ show was on Tuesday and she will fill in on the evening shows for the rest of this week and then off to Las Vegas.

Other departures are Ross Shimibuku to Sports Director at KSWB Fox 5 San Diego and mentioned by Mike Watkiss on Facebook, Claudia Riviero to places unknown.

Well, I'm certainly going to miss perky Olivia on GMAZ. But a promotion to evening anchor in Las Vegas is a GOOD thing.

Honestly, Tess may need to stay on weekends for a year or two. I can't imagine triplets and working early every morning.

I will also miss Olivia Fierro as well. It has been such a pleasure watching her on the evening newscasts. It's so refreshing to have an anchor who doesn't stumble over themselves or screams/repeats herself to the camera when exchanging with a live reporter over and over again and gets louder, thinking that will help the reporter hear her better when the sound connection has been lost.

Good luck to her at her new job and her new company Meredith Corporation.

I wonder if she will get to say goodbye to viewers after her final newscasts tonight?

Yes she did!

Brad Cesmat told the viewers that it was Fierro's last night and she was going to Vegas. Olivia said she will miss her friends in the Valley and had a good 6 years.

Tess Rafols was on GMAZ this morning (15 April). She said she would be on the weekday show "for about a month." She said she got up at 2:00 AM.

I wonder if it's wrong to think that. While I appreciate the difference between sexes, this wouldn't be a question if we were talking about a man.

Brian --

I wasn't thinking of it from a gender perspective. I was really just considering 1) that Tess has looked extremely tired the last few weekends since she got back and 2) the ability to find help from friends and relatives on weekday mornings as opposed to weekend mornings.

I am making the assumption that Tess's husband works. If not, this may not be as much of an issue. But a single baby is quite a strain on most couples. I can't imagine triplets (and it WOULD be a strain for a MAN as well).

For example, there is an anchor in Columbus, Ohio who only works on weekend mornings and files a report for the weekend evening news. She says that she wants to spend the rest of the week with her husband and kids. Very admirable in my book. And, by the way, she was previously the weekday morning anchor.

Former,

I think it's a great topic to discuss. I think couples have a huge decision to make, like you said, when having a baby: what to do for child care. I assume that once Tess and her husband decided to become parents, they made plans on what to do if one or both parents work. I'm sure that it is triple hard caring for 3 babies.

Tess looked tired probably because after bed rest, labor, and getting the kids home and settled, she's trying to develop a routine. They probably have a system set up no matter what hours Tess and her husband work, including some type of daycare.

I applaud Tess for making her choice, just like I respect the Columbus anchor and her decision.
