Olivia Fox out at The Beat

Morning drive on 95.7 The Beat is now the syndicated Steve Harvey Show from Chicago. Olivia Fox is out. Not being of the hip-hop generation, morning drive was the only time I could actually listen to the station. It appears the Clear Channel would rather save money by having a Premiere show on the air, than having a dynamic local presence. Olivia Fox is good...period. This is a shame for the local community.

OK.... has someone lost their mind over on Gandy? Another week and another stunning departure. This makes ZERO sense to me. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought The Beat was doing real well, and Olivia Fox was well received by the listeners? Anyway, I guess what's really surprising is that they're replacing her with Steve Harvey and not Whoopie (assuming this info is correct). Seems to me a transistion to Whoopie is a natural for 95.7 and in line with what Clear Channel has been doing around the country the last month. Who thinks the station becomes more Urban AC or adopts the "Movin" or "Party" format sound?

I think someone did loose their mind. 1st they let go H-Vidal two weeks ago, who was easly their most popular jock in the streets (M-F 6-9pm) and now The Olivia Fox morning show? It is a big blow to the local community. Ratings were up and they go and destroy the very people that made them. Maybe their trying to reach the over 50 crowd by putting Steve Harvey on. They already do so with the Quiet Storm so why not the morning show too???

I can't figure out why CC would change a successful station like The Beat. If the job was to take away listeners from Wild, mission accomplished. Maybe it got too successful and is threatening FLZ. That may sound like a stretch, but I just can't figure it out.

I have been reading the insights that are posted on this board for sometime but I thought it was my time to sound off. Having worked for Cheap Channel in the past, they seem to care about 1 thing. The all mighty buck and not ratings. The PD in a no talent hack that had to be related to somebody to get into this biz. I worked with Sheppard and could never figure why they let him on the air in the first place. He has a horrible radio voice. God Bless America that their are company's that hire guys like him. Never really listened to The Beat since I'm not into rap but why would they go to a Steve Harvey Show instead of a live local talent. Radio used to be fun, now its just a bunch of suits playing D.J. roullette trying to find the cheapest talent to put on the air. Ratings don't matter anymore.

If I were a conspiracy freak, my guess is the decision may be more complicated than you might think.

When the braintrust at 4002 Gandy signed The Beat on, the idea was to knock WILD 98.7 down a few pegs, leveling the playing field for a faltering FLZ and getting rid of 100.7's biggest competition all in one big swoop. The end result after all this time is mission accomplished, kind of. WILD, while still doing well, is not the powerhouse it once was...and MIX100.7...well, at least it's still on the air. (I still think CC blew up the wrong station)

The move to blow out Olivia may have more to do with the shorter gentleman across the hall with a shiny new Vette. 95.7 has great numbers. Ya gotta wonder if Olivia was more of a threat to the MJ's show than people realize.

Or maybe she just wanted more $$. Whatever happened, I wish her the best of luck and I know she will land on her feet.

i worked at gandy as a hack for a while, but durimg my time i learned a lot.

I know that the 95.7 sales staff was excited about sellimg Olivia. IMHO, that caused friction on the floor... the 98 rock morning show is worth talking about in the sales community but ratings never materialized even though Rigs sounded awesome. Same way orlando did when he came on... but the 95.7 morning crew was never given a chance.

Nancy Alexander had a chance but when Mike Reeves left that was the nail in the coffin and the ratings show it. maybe olivia fox and nancy fox should do an 'ego death match' show on whatever frequency is showing the greatest signs of weakness.

All due respect to both talents... no offense intended... just posting my typically uninformed opinion... which tells me that nancy and olivia will unforturnately be clipping coupons soon as Nancie joins Olivia in the unemployemnet line.

See...this is the reason that I hate Tampa radio. I used to listen to her when she was with Russ Parr (who always reminded me of a second-hand Steve Harvey) and she was okay then, but she really did make Tampa her own. She was shaky at first but for the first time in YEARS I had a morning show that I could listen to. I was an MJ fan but when is someone going to tell the emperor he has no clothes on? This is a "good ol' boys" town and it's all about the money. My conspiracy theory? Olivia was siphoning off some of MJ's female audience and he wasn't having that. I've been listening to MJ since he first came into the market and he was alot more local and listener-oriented back then. Now, he holds out his papal ring for Tampa to kiss. I'm not hating on him because of his status. He worked and earned everything he owns. But dude has a serious "me, me, me" complex.

I don't listen to MJ too much anymore (where before, I would listen all the way to the office door). I guess it's back to my CD player...
