Olympics Dominate Ratings

Real easy to 'dominate' when there is little or no competition as MarcB pointed out. The only numbers that mean anything is the year-to-year comparison and those were not good.

Then again, very little on TV is drawing big numbers any more. The audience has diluted, just as it has on the radio.

It's all relative. It seems all manner of audiences are waning lately. Last weekend's empty seats at the Atlanta NASCAR race was startling. Don't know the TV ratings for it but they were probably down too. It was delayed by rain so that might have been a big factor.

I still can't believe TV is killing Madam Secretary and has already killed Last Man Standing. Both were/are very well written and among the best in class. Fox seems to airing nothing but trash aside from their sports offerings.

NASCAR ratings for Sunday were down about 15% from the prior year - which isn't bad for a race no one thought would run due to forecast persistent rains, and having the Olympics airing opposite on NBC.

I can't believe that NASCAR fans would pass up what is usually one of the better races of the year to watch the closing ceremonies.

I watched what I watched of the Olympics on CBC and their web site has a ton of replays and condensed events you can watch anytime. NBC, by comparison is a high school play. Not sure what was on Sunday on "must see TV".

Madam Secretary ran out of steam last season. It's like they only planned for a 1 season run and then forgot to write anymore seasons. I tried to watch Last Man Standing hoping for a Home Improvement type of show but was sadly disappointed. Over use of the laugh track on jokes that were not even remotely funny.

I agree with your MS statement but I thought it was still one of the better dramas on TV currently.

I was a huge fan of Home Improvement during its run partly because I could identify with the main character and Allen's supporting cast was incredible. Even so, towards the end of the run it also got sort of silly (the Beach Boys? Really?). LMS was intended to be an entirely different type of show even though the family was man, woman and three kids. Their supporting cast was very good I thought. Agree with your comment on the laugh track. The most abused tech item in all of TVland.
