He's going to wind up back on the FM airwaves somewhere in NYC, most likely syndicated as well. As someone mentioned, he's gotta really clean it up if he wants to wind up back on that dreaded terrestrial FM band and people actually paid to hear his full blown, unfiltered raunch. It's going to be hard for people to go back to the way it was. And even more genteel than before, thanks to Michael Powell and these religious radio "watchdog" nut jobs. Granted, we the posters of Radio-Info are watchdogs and in some cases - myself included, nut jobs (at least I tell it like it is.) But I/we don't base our points of view via some Judeo-Something media wanna-be guru that tells us what families allegedly want and then goes home and beats their wives and kids with the Old Testament.
I'm only hoping Obama's choice for FCC chairman will have the good sense to know that radio is in trouble and it's only people like Stern that can save it from oblivion. I mean there are stations in Europe than get away with more risque stuff than Howard Stern is allowed to in the land of "freedom of speech" and that there IS an audience for this material he and other "shock jocks" do and they should have a terrestrial radio format and outlet to be heard in all it's glory. Maybe on HD 2-3 something - do those fall under the same "obscenity" hogwash as as the main analog signals? Would it even be noticed?
And when he's gone from satellite...well that just about wraps it up for Sirius XM. But terrestrial radio needs to wise up too. Because with mobile wi-fi for cars and portables is just around the corner, he could have a future option of doing it all by a subscription service through the web if need be. And that could also happen. But in the meantime, terrestrial radio had better be nice to the King of All Media. He's one of the very few left in this industry that can get what he wants at his own price and national advertisers KNOW this. And respect it.
