OMG...THE CHRISTMAS MUSIC'S NOT GOING TO END ON KVIL

. The people responsible for running them all off, should be shown the door.
The listeners should be shown the door? The advertisers should be shown the door?

After all, they (The listeners) are the ones that aren't there in the same numbers, and spending money with the advertisers like they used to. The advertisers, (who some of you may realize are operating in the biggest financial crisis of the last 60 years) are the ones spending much less with radio stations across the board.

Debi Diaz could justify her salary when KLUV was killing in Persons 25-54. Hard to justify that same salary when the listeners aren't there in the same numbers.

And the suits could justify that salary when car dealers were lining up to advertise. Anybody read any stories on what car dealers are going through right now? Anybody know what percentage of radio advertising used to be car companies and car dealers? (Hint it was almost 25% in some markets)

Some of you people need to step back from beating your head against the trees of 'owners are greedy/owners just want to cut costs' and see the forest of WHY they're cutting costs.

When finanical firms are collapsing, airlines are cutting back flights, retail locations are shutting down at record numbers, do you people really think radio is immune? Get a clue people, get a clue...

(And yes, SOME owners are just greedy. Others, not so much. But from what I've seen, companies are cutting costs ascross the board- because revenues are down industry wide. Because the economy is in the toilet. A rising tide lifts all boats. And a flushing toilet drags a lot of people down with it...)

stupidity. People like King, Sharp, Diaz, and yes even Bass, have been treated like crap. Those people have undoubtedly given their blood, sweat and tears to bring good in the industry, and all they got in return was a pink slip. And if Dean is next, that just hightens how bad times really are.

LOL - I can't believe you would put Bass in the same group with King, Sharp, Diaz & Dean! (for the record, Sharp is still employed at CBS)

Mr. Douglas,

Considering we all know you are the one who got Bass' job, we'll just take your psot as a cheap shot towards Bass.

Immune? Not really. But it's the overpaid CEO's who sit in luxery offices and do very little work, who need to be shown the door, before you start cutting the people who actually do all the work. What your suggesting is that the pilots oughta be cut. Gee, who's gonna fly the plane?

KVIL went 3.3 - 5.3, in the November to December PPM trend.

The most amazing Christmas Music PPM trend released today was for WNIC going from 4.5 to an amazing 11.0!

Love the programming practice or not, only one station in today's PPM trend releases, WCBS, saw anything short of AMAZING monthly numbers with 24/7 Christmas in the PPM world.

The COO's and CEO's I know spend much of their time traveling to different markets, and earn every penny of what they make. Until you have had the "The buck stops here" sign on your desk, you end up sounding like an envious wannabe.

Envious wannabe? No, thank you. I'm not interested in that line of work.

In today's competitive market, I'd call that jump, along with #2 12+, #2 25-54, #1 W 25-54, and #2 P 18-49 pretty successful. Weekends were also #1 P 25-54 and W 25-54 for December. :)

Wait a minute. Hold the phone. Is someone suggesting that executives might make more money and have nicer offices than the average rank and file employee? That's crazy talk. Mad, mad, I tell ya!

And I really feel for you guys that have radios that are not equipped with functions that allow you to change the station, put in a cd, listen to an mp3 player, or even turn it off when you hear something you don't like. Sometimes I forget that they're really are people in this world that are worse off than me.

Welcome to the chicken and the egg argument. What good is a pilot without planes to fly? Who's going to buy those jets from Boeing or McD-D or Airbus? Who's going to negotiate landing rights, buy gates, etc at the airports? Who's going to run the computer systems that allow passenegers to buy tickets to get ON those planes? You make it sound like the pilot is the be-all end all. Please. He's one piece of a much bigger puzzle. And without all thos eother people, there's mno reason for the pilot to fly the plane.

If anything, your average DJ is like the guy piloting the shuttle train between stations. He's on a very known track, that allows little in the way of leeway (after all, he just goes terminal a to term b to c to d to e and back to A). The owners tell him where to drive/what to play. They give them the vehicle to do it (tram/whatever format). They don't have their choice of how to get people from A to B (Bus?Tram? Cab? rickshaw?), just as jocks don't have the choice to suddenly change formats and play differnt music (rock? country? smooth jazz?)

And just like with airport shuttles, owners can automate it and save money. Now, if they had a conductor, they might be able to hold the door for the guy running for the train, or be there to help the little old lady with her heavy suitcase. Just like you might get better 'service' for your listeners with a live jock. But it's much harder to automate a GM's job, a DOS's job, a GSM, or an LSM's job, than it is a jocks.

If they did the equivalent of "voice tracking" on airlines, I would be driving a lot in the future.

Scary thought. Replace ticket counters completely with self-service kiosks. Make everyone fly nude & don't allow carry-on luggage so you can eliminate security checkpoints. Robots can sniff the "checked" luggage. At least the "I am your pilot, sit back and have a nice flight" speech could be a highly polished recording. Flying the plane could be automated, who needs pilots. Install vending machines for cokes & peanuts to eliminate flight attendants, and yet another recording for the "seat cushion is a floatation device" speech. Oh yeah, I said vending machines - so they can charge for what is now being given away. That would give the CEO's some equipment to buy & then they could brag about generating revenue. That would therefore justify their millions of dollars in compensation. That CEO stuff is brutal work after all.

If the poor babies have to constantly travel, they can be reassured that hardly anyone is having to be paid but themselves. Maybe with that extra money they can afford to buy a telecommuting hookup.

Ah, success.

Then the CEO's would point to market surveys and claim the public prefers the vending machines and automation.

scrtr84 to Little1: Why did the chicken cross the road?

Little1: Deregulation of the chicken's side of the road was threatening its dominant market position. The chicken wasfaced with significant challenges to create and develop the competencies required for the newly competitive market. Andersen Consulting, in a partnering relationship with the client, helped the chicken by rethinking its physical distribution strategy and implementation processes. Using the Poultry Integration Model (PIM), Andersen helped the chicken use its skills, methodologies, knowledge, capital and experiences to align the chicken's people, processes and technology in support of its overall strategy within a Program Management framework. Andersen Consulting convened a diverse cross-spectrum of road analysts and best chickens along with Anderson consultants with deep skills in the transportation industry to engage in a two-day itinerary of meetings in order to leverage their personal knowledge capital, both tacit and explicit, and to enable them to synergize with an enterprise-wide value framework across the continuum of poultry cross-median processes. The meeting was held in a park-like setting, enabling and creating an impactful environment which was strategically based, industry-focused, and built upon a consistent, clear, and unified market message and aligned with the chicken's mission, vision, and core values. This was conducive towards the creation of a total business integration solution. Andersen Consulting helped the chicken change to become more successful.

Or... the smarta***** would simply point to the over-crowded and cramped conditions of the mass transit in say, India fro example, and say " We can't make anyone use this system.... but.... they do... and the ridership is high.... and so.... my dear Watson....we Must be doing things right"..... And ergo, we do not need to change a thing !!

Or some such twisted/perverted logic......

The Fun Never Ceases !!

Which illustrates the point, these stations have no idea what to do with their HD counterparts, just place holders and that sums up broadcasting over all.

While the Christmas music was playing back on 103.7-HD2 after the holiday, the station was still playing the Pre-Christmas spots, announcing how Christmas music was coming to 103.7.

Since it was all previously recorded.... I guess it stayed there...

Or the traffic manager didn't do their job, or someone didn't put a kill date on the spots in the automation system.
