OMG: What happened with the Scott Paulson deal

93.7 The Zone just said they can't put Scott Paulson or as they say the mystery DJ on the air until some last minute legal matters are settled. They don't know if he will be on today or this week. Wouldn't Paulson have fulfilled the non compete by now?

Yeah, that surprised me to, McIntyre is filling in until they find out if he can go on which may be any minute, hour day, or week.

It's probably a (lame) April Fool's joke (a day late).

Which would work better if you had a built-in audience, instead of trying to garner a new one for Pittsburgh's Man's Station.

It's probably a turn off to expect to hear Scott Paulsen after the big pump-up and be subjected to teases by McIntire and hints of "mystery DJs" instead of Scott Paulsen.

Not a good start, gang.

If what McIntire is saying has any truth to it whatsoever, this will look really great for CBS Radio.

If I had to guess, I would think that there is some sort of legal issue; that there is a problem. I don't think that CBS would go through all of this hassle with press releases, print media, etc. and not have him on at all on the first day. If it was a gag, he would have come on sometime today.

No doubt there is an issue, but one would think that all of this would have been resolved months ago. Unless Paulsen didn't like what he heard and decided not to go forward with his show, which I doubt seriously. All I can think of is The Price Is Right sound effect for when somebody loses a game. That's the thought that keeps running through my head when I think of the first day of The Zone.

Given that they didn't have any advance promotion out for Paulsen, I would assume this is a legit legal issue.

The only way that would work as a stunt would be if they had created a serious buzz about Paulsen's debut -- and even then, what's the payoff on NOT giving listeners what they tuned in for?

if you're managment at CBS Pittsburgh...how could you even show your face in public, let alone fancy media shin-digs downtown...very sad...

There has to be some legal issue here. ??? What? Who knows. However, what I have heard from sources and read on this board throughout the afternoon it could have been handled a little better. Why draw attention to something that may not be worked out today? Why not casually mention it and move on. :-[ Perplexing...

The more I think about the "legal wranglings", the more I think this was all a great deal of b.s. What further sloidifies this for me is that Ryan (I presume Ryan Mill) came on and announced that Scott Paulsen would be on air tomorrow. Sounds to me like other issues played a part in this as well.

I listened online today. Wasn't impressed! Not impressed with the concept, the hosts, the imaging. What a waste of a 50,000 watt heritage FM in the Burgh! CBS destroyed B-94, couldn't do a thing with K-Rock, and on top of this KDKA is dying.

Way to go CBS! Clueless Broadcasting System!

What was it you told the FCC in regards to multiconglomerates attacking LPFM, Chris? "You've already destroyed yourselves." I'm guessing this latest installment of 93.7 is a stunt. It HAS to be...nothing I've ever heard on the air sounds THIS bad.

Its not a stunt, not the format or the Paulsen mess. "i's were not dotted and "t"s not crossed in Scott's case. The rest of the format....you tell me. I can't imagine what anyone was thinking when they threw this mess together. We won't even go into the technical problems that still sound like a college radio station.

Wonder if they can beat KQV this book??

Whatever happened to actually preparing for a format change... like having the board ops sit in the studio and practice getting in and out of breaks for a week before you put the product on the air.

Is anybody thinking at all in this case?

It's hard to have prepared a board op for a change from music to talk because they were still running the music right up to the change. Running a board for music is totally different from running it for talk. I also don't believe that the same board ops are running the board now, their producers like that Gabby for McIntyre and Nick DeGreco for Paulsen are doing it.

So the week before the format goes on the air, you run K-Rock from the production studio and have the new people practice.
