Omnia 11 & Orban 8600 pages

I'd buy the Omnia.11 without even hearing it, first. VERY cool that they include MPX Tool, from claesson-edwards. VERY cool, indeed. Tip of the hat to Frank, great call!

Not that it matters a lick for a bunch of us, but what's the amount of delay in the Omnia.11?

I keep hoping to see a Breakaway box, frankly I prefer the sound and clarity of Breakaway over anything else I've heard yet...but the 6 has always been my favorite box.

Bob,
I hear there is going to be an upgrade for the 8500 to 8600.. is this true? Any idea of the cost?

Yes. The cost of a given upgrade will be the difference between the list prices of the 8500 and 8600 models (i.e., there will be upgrades from 8500 to 8600, 8500FM to 8600FM, and 8500FM to 8600.)

The upgrades will be first available at different times in order to allow early production to be allocated to 8600 units and to the higher-priced upgrades. For example, the upgrade from 8500FM to 8600 (which includes HD processing) will be available before the 8500Fm>8600FM upgrade.

The upgrade kits will consist of a new DSP board and control module.

I know this one. we tested it. the delay on the Omnia 11 is about 10ms and on the 8600 wth the new clipper it appears to be over 100ms the stutter as we A/B switched from the Omnia11 to the 8600 was very noticeable but from source to the Omnia 11 it was not detectable.

We've managed to keep it in the ballpark of the Omnia 6EXi. As of right now, the 11's latency is a tad longer than 6exi. Really hard to hear this difference when "A/B-ing" the two. The sonic difference, on the other hand, is quite a different story...

The 8600 delay with the new limiter is about 250 ms. We have arranged things so that if you activate the diversity delay for any output, you can switch to any other structure smoothly without dropping or repeating program material. The minimum value of the diversity delay is about 250ms, which is the same as the delay of an 8600 preset that uses the new limiter. In other words, you can pad the delay of all of the 8600's presets so that they are the same as the presets using the new limiter structure. In addition, the diversity delay has been calibrated so that you can swap out an 8500 with an 8600 in an HD Radio installation and the diversity delay will continue to be correct if you set the 8600 to the same delay you were using in the 8500.

The 8600 continues to offer the same ultra-low-latency (UL) presets that were available in the 8500. These have less than 5ms delay. You can remove the delay padding if you need to put these on the air to allow live talent headphone cueing on remotes.

In addition, the 8600 continues to offer the same low-delay monitor output as the 8500, so you can use this for in-studio headphone monitoring.
