Omnia 3FMt remote control battle

Hi guys,
The last few days I have tried to make the remote control of this Omnia 3FMturbo to come to life. But, as you probably guessed by now, it's a no-go. I'm running 3.05.02 on the O3 and have tried both 3.4.1 and 3.5.3 as remote. I know I should use a direct serial connection and not a null-modem cable and I have switched cables twice just to be sure. I also tried 3 PC's (2 with Vista, 1 with XP) and read the manual twice. It still won't connect...

Hi there!

Drop an e-mail to our support [email protected]. They can work with you to see if there is a step you're missing, something with the unit, or anything else. I would attempt to help, but I have long since forgotten all the little tricks to figuring out what kind of issue you may be having. It's been over 10 years since I've messed with the older Omnia platform in that kind of way!

Was this "your" unit all along, or was it bought used? Let the support folks know that too...

Regards,
-Cornelius

Hello Cornelius, I will do just that if no suggestions or solutions are offered on this board.
I always try the board first to try and share 'the wealth of knowledge' and make the problem 'googlable' ;)

To make sure you're using the right cable and the Omnia is responding, trying connecting to Omnia just via terminal (HyperTerm). If you can get a prompt, log-in, etc. than the cable is OK and the Omnia is OK.

Understood...but do the internet one favor...

If you do not find what you are looking for on the board, and our folks help and resolve your problem, post a follow up and tell what your resolution was!

The thing that drives me crazy when "googling" for an answer to a problem are long threads about a "problem" from three years ago (that happens to match the problem I want an answer to now) that just ENDS without a resolution. A long list of "no that wasn't it" responses that just fall off the cliff at some point without a resolution. Obviously the problem was solved, but the person asking the question never bothered to post what his or her solution was.

That kind of thing drives me batty!

Pop a question to the crew, and I'm sure we'll have you squared away in no time!

LOL! I know exactly what you mean ;D
I've tried hyperterminal, couldn't get it to work, but I'm pretty sure that's more me being unfamiliar with it than anything else...
I will try another O3 to see if it makes a difference before I drop an email to the support guys though... I want to be thorough ;-)

I can't tell you how many times during the age of crappy support I find Omnia supports their stuff. Had a similar problem and they shipped me a loaner to use while thye fixed mine. Software thing.

If I had the money I'd buy more Omnias. LOVE the remote software. Nothin like sittin next to any of my favorite radios messin with the processor late at night.

Tried a Telnet session, didn't work. Tried it with a second Omnia 3, it didn't work.
Tried a third cable, didn't work. Tried a second 9p>25p adapter... Up and running!
It just proves you just can't trust simple analogue solutions in a complex digital world ;D

Thanks!

We strive for excellent customer support...Glad you noticed!

Some competitors try to put a negative spin on our efforts to provide even more support because they apparently don't want to spend the money to do it.

We feel it is a vital piece of our business. Whenever you plunk down your hard earned buck$ (especially in these times), you want to know the provider of the goods has your back. We do everything we can to be there for you!

Anyway, enough of the cheer leading...off to enjoy the saturday with the son! It's daddy / son bonding weekend for me!

wheeeee!

Enjoy your holiday weekend, all!
