Omnia One

Newly installed omnia one. Multipath, artifacts, very weak sidebands. Modulation level is good. In a high rf field. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked the SCA gain control on the back? When we installed ours, there was a terrible gargling/whooshing noise that could be heard down in the audio region. Turns out the SCA gain was turned up so high (it shipped that way) that it was causing distortion all the way down into the audio region. Turning it down eliminated the problem.

Which preset are you using? When we first installed ours, it was very frustrating. Actually took it out of the chain and went back to our old processor. Now it's back in and doing pretty well. I'm interested in knowing which preset you're on because the limiters don't do well with some hypercompressed material. Using a preset like Cosmic may help if you have frequency balance issues. Or back off the limiters and compensate with an increase in the multiband AGC section. Also, we had to readjust all of our mic processors to eliminate voice distortino, because the Omnia handles voice much differently than our previous processor.

This is all just my perspective on the unit...there are others who may believe that a different approach is better...but Omnia support is good and they're willing to help diagnose just about any problem by e-mail.

Thanks ,experiencing same sound. I believe it's set to rock. Sounds good except for the mentioned problems. The sidebands are extremely week, and sound like hash.

OK..

If you remember, the problem Whit was primarily due to the RDS signal being way too high. If you are feeding the RDS into the SCA input, and it is all the way up - then this would definitely give you lots of noise AND tons of multipath.

The RDS carrier should only be at 2% injection MAX.

Another situation that can give you noises even when the injection is not too high on the RDS is when it is not locked in phase with the pilot tone, though it sounds to me like you are experiencing issue #1.

Take all subcarrier (RDS) gear off of the program chain, and then see how things look....

What kind of music? Ours is contemporary hit/pop. The limiters are awesome on older material but you may want to back off on them with newer music from about 2000-present. In the Xover section there is a selection for overall AGC drive and limiter drive; the Cosmic preset has the overall Limiter drive set to -2 and the AGC drive set to +2. This trick works well on virtually any preset with hypercompressed music, at least in my experience anyway. I would still be interested in hearing about others' dealing with the One and how they got theirs sounding good!
