On Air affiliates

I read Star in San Diego is going to carry it middays and I thought some station in florida, not sure which one though. I had heard alot of stations were signing up for it. Be interesting how many out of the box stations he has.

This is kinda Ashame... I dont dislike seacrest,, he seems like a nice funny guy, and he does a great job at AT 40,,, but this will cause alot of local talent to lose their Jobs,, and I think Morning Shows should be local.. Ryan cant provide local news, events, Weather,,ECT..... Again, this isnt a knock on Ryan, he's great on AT 40 and Idol, and he would be great for a station like KIIS... I just hate to see local content lost, especially morning drive..... I dont mind night and weekend programs like OHP and Romeos Playhouse who actually acknowledge their national audience and dont pretend to be local,, But AM drive should be live and local... Im glad that both my local CHRs WNOU and WBWB believe in staying live and local, even if some is voicetracked, its still local........ I just hope Z-100 NYC and Y-100 Miami keeps their Morning Zoo,,, Im sure z-100 will keep a local morning show since its the largest number one radio market

Have you done any research on this show? It's a 3 hour show that has to run between 10a and 7p. It's not available for mornings.

And with how few stations have any shifts that are 3 hours long, I don't see many people that are going to be out of a job with this. In the age of 5 and 6 hour shifts, there is still time for everyone's precious "live and local" to have room to play.

Keep in mind, that most peoples' sacred-cow, "live and local," is NOT being done well. Before you put your local station on such a pedestal of righteousness, take a minute to really LISTEN to your "local" station. With exceedingly rare exception, they're not doing what they think they're doing.

I've seen the Seacrest clock...there's room built in for local content. But will anyone take advantage of that? Probably not. PDs are bad at really making their stations truly local, and would rather have a set-it-and-forget-it product. It's the same reason they don't aircheck and teach their jocks anymore.

So, with all that in mind, if the choice is a "live and local" liner card reader, and a nationally recognized talent that's delivering better content, I choose the latter.

Dr Radio is right on ESPECIALLY with small market PDs these days, who often have to wear multiple hats.

When I was a PD, I tried to aircheck everyone, but the owner refused to pay them for their time in my office - so a lot of it was done on paper. At the station I work at now, the only time I'm airchecked is when I bring the MD to the PD and ask for criticism.

Ryan Seacrest is a true "hustler". He's a hard worker and makes a ton of cash. My only question is where does Seacrest find the friggin time?

Is that for all time zones, or just eastern time?

Does anyone have any of the logistics of this show? If Ryan does his Kiss show until 10, how can this show be available at 10 est? That would be 7 est. Are they basically using material from his Kiss show with some extra talk and breaks thrown in? Just curious how they put this show together.

Much of it will happen at essentially the same time. There will be two teams of producers to edit and push the content on the fly.

I think part of why new hires today are expected to learn through trial and error is mainly because today's PD's are WAY too busy to coach their staff. The only problem is there's usually a lot of error before they get it down.

I know a a station in Wisconsin are picking up the show, and Q102 as previously mentioned.

In regards to "live and local", people do listen to the radio for weather announcements, school/event cancellations, etc. if they know they are going to get it from there.

Thats part of the problem.
Stations think "live and local" a.k.a. "save my job" is weather annoucements, school/event cancellations and a local p.s.a. for some lame event.
Wow, thats compelling local radio!

Your local weather? Online
Your school/event cancellations? Online
(Numerous radio stations even promote a TV station website for the cancellations.)
Sports? Online

My mid-day choices?

A. Lame "live and local" information I already know about and some jock reading Hollywood news.
B. Entertaining show from Hollywood with lots of guest celebrities?

Hmmmmmmmmm, I pick B.

I hope the On Air site adds an affiliate list soon. I mean, it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Ryan Seacrest wouldn't move from L.A. to Hicksville U.S.A. to do his on air show in the studio. As far as I know Huntsville, Alabama isn't airing the On Air show (although I have been begging WZYP to get Dawson McAllister Live on).

How does the show work for the affiliates? Is it a totally produced show with music included, or is it simply voicetracked breaks that allow the local stations to program their own music. Personally, I would be a lot more open to it if it was the latter. I know John Tesh has this option with his show where stations have the option of programming their own music. And since Seacrest's show is aimed at both CHR and Hot AC, I'm guessing that it may be distributed that way as well. Anyone know?

UUGGGGHHH!! This is one show I HATE! I have yet to understand why anyone is running this right wing religious show on CHR radio. I have heard the weekend and daily show, and I just don't get it. Seems like a horrible fit for CHR radio to me.

You have both options. You can get the show as just breaks, or you can get a satellite version that is completely programmed.

Here's the "Ross On Radio" first take: http://www.edisonresearch.com/home/archives/2008/07/first_listen_on_air_with_ryan.php

Are you serious? Right wing religious show? Have you seen the ratings? And listened to the REAL content?

Probably not.

Yeah, I've heard the current Dawson McAllister show as well as the former show he used to do several years ago on Contemporary Christian Radio. And honestly, I can't tell much difference. It might not be an outright religious show but it is certainly implied and definately comes off as "preachy" to me. I really can't understand why it would have that big of an appeal to teens. I know back when I was a teen, I would have certainly been turned off by this.

To me, he comes off about the same as Dr. Phil on TV or Dr. Laura on talk radio. It's one thing to do an objective talk show (I think Dr. Joy Browne is one of the best at that); but it's another thing to be overly preachy and have an "agenda" in what you steer the callers toward. And McAllister definately has a right wing view on everything. Just look at his website. With him, certain issues are never based on the callers own personal situation and decisions as to what is right for them, but instead they are always based on McAllister's religious based viewpoints towards all issues.

Anyway, I'm not wanting to argue. I'm just saying that the show and McAllister's views certainly don't appeal to me and it is an immediate button pusher when I hear him on. Just not my cup of tea. I can hear the same type of views on about 100 religious AM (hollar' for a dollar') stations in my area if I want that.
