On Air and wanting to relocate...need help/suggestions

Hello Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach!

I have been checking out the posts for a few months and finally realized I should actually post and maybe have someone point me in the right direction. :D

I am 31 years old. I live in North East Pennsylvania and have worked in radio since I was 16. It's all I know and have known. My wife of three years has her mother and step dad in Wilmington and We love it there. Been going there for 3 years and I LOVE it and am beggining to really know the area.

I started in CHR and also did swing rock shifts for the same company at same complex at same time b/c I handled both formats well. I then became MD/Nights from 2002 or so until 2006. I chose to leave and went to a Country station to do mid days. I also did morning fill in about 5 weeks out of the year on our sister Hot AC station.

I was laid off in December of last year simply because of budgets. last one in, first one out, and now my shift is tracked. I now find myself working at the station part time doing air shifts on both stations and working in promotins. I've done it all. I've even worked for MTV as a VJ and was in Paramount's School of Rock.... It was some great times and I can't help but feel my radio career is over at 31 and I feel like I just got seasoned and am ready to rock Afternoon Drive / Morning Drive. I've been doing those shifts since 18 and have the drive, knowledge, and content content content!

I'm not looking to give you a sad story...we are all going through a tough time. But in the past 3 years I've lost my mom, my job, and now maybe my house and I'm just looking to get the hell out of here and kick ass in WB NC and start over with the love of my life doing something I love more than anything except her and my dogs!

I just would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on anyone I could send anything to! I worked for Citadel and Clear Channel so I don't know anyone from Cumulus or Nex.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have tapes, resume's, and would love to talk!

Thank you so much.

Check with Capitol Broadcasting Company. They have a radio division in the Wilmington market and I think they were advertising an on-air opening at their AC station there, Sunny 104.5.

Capitol is a home-grown, North Carolina company with lots of great benefits.

thanks a ton. i actually talked briefly with dan binder there the other day. sounds and seems like a great guy. we are coming down there regardless and i'm just gonna get any job i can doing anything while we save for a house and spend time with my wifes family so hopefully something down there would open up someday. i really love the area and the people are great. just miss being behind the mic!

gang. it's been a while. really trying to get to wrigthsville beach with my wife within the next year or sooner. i was on air since 15 years old and have worked at CHR , country, rock, and AC. i've been full time at most and was the 'go to ' guy for every shift when people took vacations and we juggled on air shifts. most recently i spent the last 3 years doing mid days on a country station in Allentown PA and then filling in mornings and PM drive on our sister AC station, wlev.

just curious to see what's new down there or if anyone has any info on what the next 12 months down there could bring? i miss being on air and it's pretty much all i know. i was MD and also worked heavilly in promotions at all stations and also was the production director. so i know all areas behind the mic and behind the scenes...... just really getting ready to get down there to be with wife's family as they grow older. i dont' have much here in allentown at the moment.

hope to hear from feedback from all of you please. being up here i kinda have to rely on trades to see what's up. i obv have air checks letters of recco resumes, etc...countless articles from print....

hope to hear
from some of you.
chris

Well, you've been working in market #69 and you're trying to move to market #162, so you may have to convince them that you're in possession of all your faculties (most jocks in Wilmington would kill to make it all the way up the ladder to Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton).

In Wilmington, your pool of prospective employers basically amounts to three (3) companies. Providing each of them with a dazzling resume, a killer aircheck and a knockout interview should take a few hours, tops.

The capper on all of this, of course, is that radio companies nationwide have been whacking AT positions at breakneck speed, and once those positions are eliminated--unless the sky falls in--they're not being reinstated. Even in Wilmington. Maybe especially in Wilmington.

Widen your search. Be flexible. Be really, really flexible.

Today's Radio Business is far different that it was just four years ago, technology has eliminated on air positions, but now,
companies are cutting across the board, i started in broadcasting back in early 1983, and until last year, was working full
time, even though my on air duties had been reduced over a period of time, i can tell you currently Cumulus and Sunrise
Broadcasting aren't hiring full time, i understand Cumulus has cut midday positions nationwide, and that Sunrise Broadcasting
are having financial issues, the other company here, Sea-Comm Media, don't have anything open, if you are in market #69,
you might want to reconsider relocating, Wilmington doesn't pay well, but to get away from the cold and snow, this would be
a good place to live, although this winter has been unusual, even getting four inches of snow, but most days this time of
year is suppose to be decent, i'm not sure what my next chapter will be, but radio may have seen it's best days, and more
station sales and cuts are coming soon.
