on-air changes at KLPX and KFMA

from facebook

Adrienne Mackey
The Wake Up Call's last day is July 2nd...on July 6th the World Famous Frank Show debuts on KLPX mornings, I debut on KFMA mornings (6-10) & Scotty B moves to KLPX afternoons (3-7)!!

The World Famous Frank Show
Breaking News:.....Frank Show will be switching to 96.1 KLPX on July 6th. Tune into KFMA for more details. Same show...stronger signal!!!

Kind of funny how little comment the KLPX/KFMA switcheroo has generated on this board, compared to the massive amount of comments from the great unwashed non-radio-savvy masses over on the AZ Star's azstarnet.com site. Although some radio insiders have commented over there as well.
General consensus over on azstarnet seems to be:
1) Radio in general sucks.
2) Tucson radio sucks more than most.
3) KLPX has gotten suckier and suckier as of late.
4) ...as has KFMA.
5) "The World Famous Frank Show" really, REALLY sucks, no matter what frequency it is heard on.
;D

How does KLPX ratings compare to KHIT ratings since they supposedly play the same kind of ""classic rock/hits??? and who is KFMA's main demo....do they do well in the ratings? Could it be time for a format change at KFMA??? Please correct me-but at one time were they a 18-34 demo threat to KRQQ and KHOT?

Subtle but distinct difference between the two: KHYT bills themself as "Classic Hits" while KLPX goes with ther "Classic Rock" label. While there is certainly plenty of overlap in their playlists, there are songs heard on one but not the other. As an example, KHYT would play "Brown-Eyed Girl" but KLPX would not, while KLPX would play "Iron Man" but KHYT would not.

Poor management at the top there....blame the GM. At Lotus, the GM calls all the shots thinking he can be a programmer too. Since his arrival, Steve Groesbeck has slowly but surely run KLPX and KFMA into the ground. Their quality of broadcasting over the last few years has proven that. His decisions and ideas have failed 90% of the time and left what was once a great company with great stations/staff to fall by the waste side. In general, Tucson radio sucks because business men, not radio people, run stations. Good management hires good people to do the job then leaves them to do it. Mr. Groesbeck just can't do that and the results are obvious. Damn shame.

Thanks, you are right and I didn't even notice.....but "waste" can apply here as well. Waste of money, waste of talent, waste of a 30+ year brand and history...all living on the "waste side" ;)

Yet, there were/are good people there in the "trenches" and working through it regardless of the decisions made by management. Their's is still love for radio and a belief that it can still be the best job to have. (retaining full-time employment factors in too! :D)

I've returned from a two week work-related stay in beautiful southern California.

During the workday, my colleagues and I had the pleasure of listening to a few different stations from the area north of Los Angeles.

Let me state that the homogenized & pasteurized version of what passes for radio in this market (#60) pales to what was offered in much smaller markets (118 and lower)

Two weeks; zero posts

So, one year later, and what have we learned? As 99KTKT succinctly put it above, it is all still true??

Everybody knows this is the time of the year when all radio folk power down their transmitters and take a summer nap.

Wait for the excitment to begin around Labour day when the alledged Citadel/Cumulus lovefest starts....

maybe.....
