On Air Comments

Although this did not happen in Central Pennsylvania...it could have. I hear that a station in Sacramento has suspended it's morning crew for inappropriate comments on the air regarding the Boston Marathon bombings that included a "top 5 list of reasons to hate Boston." I went to college in Boston...but that's not important. I am ashamed of some people in the radio industry. In three years, I'll "celebrate" 40 years in the business. Can't wait to get out and collect social security. When are people in radio going to wise up and stop trying to be "cool". Nothing is sacred anymore. The industry or more correctly, certain people are in sad shape, with little real common sense.

I agree. I also went to school in Boston and recognized some of the buildings. Hung out in Copley Square quite a bit. There was a muffin shop there. I think it was called The Pewter Pot. There was a radio station with a street level studio, which I believe was in that area...WEZE 1260. Even the "shock" morning show's like Elvis Duran treated this with class. I really thought we moved past this lack of class.

Bravo. I agree with you wholeheartedly. The problem in radio today is capitalism. They want to accumulate wealth at any cost. Because of the greediness of radio ownership these days, when they do hire people, they get the cheapest people they can get, and it shows by the limited vocabulary you are speaking of. Plus, there are certain times of the day we don't get time and temperature anymore.

These guys said something about Boston the station owner didn't like, or maybe it was politically incorrect. Whatever the reason. But when these same type of people say negative things about Christianity, do they get fired? Not that I noticed. It's okay to bash Christianity.

Many things have changed since I was in broadcasting.

The real issue here....you don't make light of events where innocent people, especially children are killed...PERIOD!

Oh, I agree. But what of something similar happened in Wales, where a bunch of Christians were killed, and similar comments were made, they would still have their jobs.
