On more HD news

Liberman just fired up KTJM and KQQK HD (out of synch though). I guess this does mean that KQQK and KTJM are in the new tower that is supposed to be west of Devers.

They've been on since last night. Where are you listening to it from? (what part of town or state)

98.5 and 107.9 have been on the new tower (EAST of Devers..just south of Hwy90) since Jan!!! IIRC, their proposed start date was Jan 15th but they missed it by some days according to their chief, Mike Todd. Running Nautel solid state transmitters (Damn smartest thing I have ever seen LBI do!)

Does anyone really care about HD2? I have found it not worth the $$$ I spent on my receiver. I think Satellite Radio is better.

I'm listening in Magnolia, but I can probably tell you that the signal will drop once I turn on the car and drive.

Magnolia, as in North of Houston??? You can get the HD lock from Devers up there? Maybe that new tower did do them some good.

I honestly have not seen much difference. If they infact did switch in January, then I don't see any difference from the old tower. It's probably because I am well outside the 60 dbu line to notice stereo drop outs. But turning on the HD has done a bit better.

I don't think they have been on since Jan. I heard it was just a few months ago.

I could have sworn someone reported here that they were still on the original Devers towers a couple of months ago.

Nope, they have been off the Clear Channel tower since January.....

License to cover KQQK was issued in April. It was filed 4/1...you file such a few MONTHS after you have been in the program test mode on the CP.....they did start broadcasting from their new tower in Jan 07...April 1, they filed for license to cover. Granted 2 weeks later. End of story.

KTJM would not have any better overall signal in Houston than from the CC tower (The VP of Egr at CC lost his job because of the number of antennas they tried to get 98.5 to cover Houston as a local....AINT GONNA work for a rimshot)..
KQQK was on a directional antenna protecting adj channel in Lufkin to the north...The new tower put them slightly higher (100ft or so) but omni because they reduced from 100KW to 90KW....(and the old antenna was a homemade directional...a Jampro with a screen behind it....never properly filed with the Commish and probably threw more signal to Houston than it should have!)...NOW 98.5 and 107.9 are on ONE antenna....and it probably did not increase signal strength one iota in most of Houston....Liberman just doesnt like to lease...so he spent 5mill for his own tower...and gets nothing in return....hmmmmmmm what a great ROI for the bank....
(and of course, KIKS out of Victoria plus the 107.9 LPFM on the west side keeps clobbering them in SW Houston....and DaBeat out of San Antonio still smashes KTJM when the band opens.....yep, good way to spend money...thats not yours! ;)

So who does this leave in Houston that has not gone HD yet? 93.3, 103.3, 97.1....... Who am I missing?

All-in-all i'm impressed with how well HD is working. It gets out further than I expected. I don't understand some of the programming decisions for some of the HD-2 stations, but I like to listen to KLOL-HD2 and KKBQ-HD2. I did like the weather service that was on one of the stations HD-3 but it is gone now.

Because I could receive the HD of both KFNC and (back then) KIOL. They haven't been on for quite a while. I still remember that KFNC was never properly synchronized. I wonder why they went off the air in the first place?

Let us now scratch KSBJ off of the "Non-HD" List. They are now in HD. Mhhhhh, I guess the holidays have inspired many companies to go HD, Even Liberman has turneed some HD's on.

I've experienced 107.9 to go silent once my hd locks in, but when i switch my car radio to analog. It comes back on. Also 96.9 fm is bcasting in HD.
