On..."MOVED: PD's: Need help/volunteers at your station?"

I know the jobs thing is the place for jobs but this guy was even happy to volunteer...and moving it there eliminates all but PD's (who bother to check there) and other people looking for jobs from seeing it, effectively removing probably 90 percent of potential contacts/networking possibilities. Didn't need to be moved.

I agree. A post like that could engender an interesting discussion on which stations might consider allowing
volunteer help, what the state of hiring is in the area, perhaps even some reminiscing on how various people managed to get their foot in the door( way back when radio was a desirable, well paid, prestigious position, even in some of the smaller markets).

In these days where the slightest accident can trigger a lawsuit, is it actually possible for stations to take on true volunteers? In the case of college interns, insurance policies of the schools and stations cover that sort of activity, but if you have a true off-the-street volunteer, are they covered? It's too bad to have to think that way, but in this day and age, it's probably prudent to think about.

Thanks all for what i guess could be words of encouragement? I'm just looking to get my foot in the door at a station. I have experience with automation software like iMediaTouch and editing software like Adobe Audition and Pro Tools from working at a college station so I'm surely not that much of a novice and have many examples of my work/or a resume if requested. Honestly, I would just go for an internship but that would mean having to dish out more money for tuition (since most stations around here require it be for college credit), that I really would rather like to save. I never thought even volunteering at a station would be this hard. Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

Sorry, I see posting on a BB for "volunteer work" as a cop out. You want to work for free? Fine. Then WORK for it. Talk to the people in charge. Send packages and resumes to PD's. Check their websites and talk with them about being an intern w/o credit. It can happen. But sitting on a bulletin board saying "Here I am. Do you need me?" Ain't professional. Even when we were younger, we didn't put an ad in the paper saying "I'll work for free". We went out and met the people. Went to events, remotes, even called jocks on the air. Got to know people, people who knew people. Put some effort into it and you have a better chance of succeeding.

By the way, anyone hiring? I have an extensive resume, outstanding skills and aircheck to prove it. LOL

And, when did radio ever pay well? Radio paid bills. Under the table remotes paid for food.
