On Sept 19 the Fish will only be on 103.9, not 105.5

I just listened to the Fish and heard that starting on September 19 the Fish will only be on 103.9.

And 103.9 Lincoln/Sacramento is now KKFS and 105.5 Dunnigan/Sacramento is now KVMG.

I wonder if Salem Communications will sell 105.5 or flip it to another format. Very possibly 1380 KTKZ will move to or simulcast on 105.5 from the posts below unless another station swap involving 105.5 or 1380 happens.

103.9 covers Sacramento better then 105.5 so it did not make sense keeping the Fish on 105.5. 105.5 only covers rural areas west of Sacramento that 103.9 does not reach. I doubt if those rural areas sell much advertising.

And they sure do a bad job of updating their website. There is no mention of 103.9 on it. And I clicked to listen to the live audio and it says kcee.fm - 105.5 and 94.3.

Re: 103.9 and 105.5 swap calls, On Sept 19 the Fish will only be on 103.9

If we put all the information together what do we get?

The Fish announces that on September 19th, 103.9 will be the primary "Fish Carrier".

AVNevis stated (in a previous post) that he received a tip from Eric Hogue that KTKZ will be under going an upgrade on September 19.

This is just a speculation, but I would imagine KTKZ will start simulating on 105.5 on September 19th.

Re: 103.9 and 105.5 swap calls

Since 105.5 is now KVMG and 94.3 is KLMG, the similar call letters suggest another simulcast on those two frequencies.
Edited by Randy_in_Eugene on 08/23/05 06:34 AM.

Negative... 94.3 is now owned by Bustos. Unless Salem sells to Bustos, this is a no go.
______________

Thank you very much. As one of the moderators I try to provide people with all the answers. Sometimes I'm right, most of the time I'm wrong. :)
______________

Alright, this is cute and all. But will a news/talk do ok on an FM? First should trade 92.1 with Salem's 105.5 and throw Flash up there. That would be fun for the struggling station's identity. I really think someone should buy Flash from First and ensure the format and people stick around awhile. First can go back to Texas and take the measly 92.1 signal with them.

Absolutely makes sense... which would be a first for the decision makers of radio. However, it might be a bit too soon for certainty. Though rumors are often just that, there are rumblings of a new format that would put 105.5 right next to it's future competition on the dial.

Of the top 5 markets that have Talk on FM, with the exception of NY, the format is grabbing above a 2 share which is better than what the AM frequency is getting now.

Wait.. isn't rumor-mongering and hisses and bywords the beauty of a forum board such as this? Isn't that the lifeblood of R-I?? I would hope that a moderator would not only be ok with this, but encourage it!

105.5 is real close to 105.1 ... just to throw some fuel on the embers...

Sounds like 105.5 is going country with perhaps Joey Mitchell in the mornings maybe? Heaven knows he needs to land somewhere!!!!

Traditionally, Salem broadcasts one of three formats: "Preachin' N Teachin'", Contemporary Christian (the Fish), or Conservative Talk programming. Country is not in their normal realm of formats, but I think they have a Country-formatted station in Hawaii. Conceivably, Country can be viewed as "traditional" music, I suppose (David Alan Coe, anyone?). Does anyone know of any Salem stations that broadcast formats other than the three aforementioned formats? I think they have an AM in Anaheim that does a brokered Multi-Ethnic format.

The 105.5 frequency tried Country twice before (as Progressive Country-formatted KYLO)from 1978-1983 and as KQBR (K Bear) from December 1991 through Summer 1992. The Country formats never made a dent in the ratings, due to the frequency's weak signal and proximity to 105.1 FM. Nonetheless, it would be nice if Joey Mitchell had a job in town. Outside of Tom Nakashima, how many DJs are still on the air locally that were here in the 1970s?

I can tell you that 105.5 is not going country, at least not in the near-term.

I don't work for Salem, but I'm with AVNevis on this, 105.5 is NOT going to country.

All the indicators are there, simulcast, simulcast, simulcast!
______________

I actually know what is going to happen, but I'm forbidden to tell.

You'll have to wait to find out for sure :)

Joey Mitchell IS on the air. He's filling in on mornings this week on, guess what, 103.9. He also does weekends.
