On the Road DX: 5-30-09

Roads: M-99/Old US-27
Cities: Albion, Eaton Rapids, Lansing, Charlotte, Marshall
Conditions: Mostly sunny, lower 70's
Tropo conditions: dead band

102.7- W274AQ- Battle Creek, MI-
4 miles north of Springport- 32.27 miles- Heard with Calvary Radio mentions.

Dimondale, MI- 41.85 miles- TENTATIVE- Heard with Christian music. Possibly WRVM-Suring, WI, but considering the dead band conditions it was probably Battle Creek, but I don't have enough to know for sure.

102.7- WCPZ- Sandusky, OH-
Eaton Rapids- 125 miles- Heard with 'Mix 102.7' while trying to sniff Battle Creek out of the static.

99.5- WFPM-LP- Battle Creek, MI
Near I-96 in Waverly, MI- 39.25 mi.- A weak WYCD is present on this frequency until you get to this area, allowing WFPM to make the nearly 40 mile trek. It must be the terrain between BC and Lansing, because I don't even get a hint of this station in Coldwater, and i'm a whole 13 miles closer.

97.1- W246AU- Coldwater, MI
I-69- 37.25 mi.- Making my return trip, this local translator made it's first appearance between Charlotte and Olivet.

101.1- W266AE- Coldwater, MI
I-69- 36.82 mi.- After successfully getting 97.1, I tried for our cross-town 101.1 translator. I might have tried for this one even farther away, but CC has decided to turn on the I-BLOC on WBFX 101.3.

91.5- W218CJ- Grand Ledge, MI
I-69- Calhoun/Eaton Co. line- 29.5 mi.- After getting the Coldwater stations, I tried to sniff out what was left of the Lansing stations. This was the only one left, and it was getting destroyed by WUOM I-BLOC. Could definitely get this one a few more miles out if not for that hash!

Other observations:
W284AH (104.7) in Lansing does not get out far at all. Even for translator standards. This one was completely gone only 15 miles away. It's a 250w translator!

W262AU (100.3) is barelyon the air in Dimondale. They're airing the same thing heard on the much stronger 91.5 translator. Radio-Locator shows them putting a listenable signal over most of Lansing, but WNIC was owning the frequency within a few miles of the tranny site.

W237BY (95.3) is on the air from just east of Holt airing the Air 1 format of 91.5 and 100.3. From what I could tell, they are definitely a fully operational facility. I never bothered trying to hear this one from 30 miles away because 3kw WBCK in Battle Creek would surely destroy this translator before then.
