Once again, it's time to change the presets.......

I also like the "pop" Christmas songs, the non-traditional ones like these for example:

Step Into Christmas (Elton John)
All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey)
Last Christmas (Wham)
12 Pains Of Christmas (Bob Rivers)
Domenic The Donkey (Lou Monte)
Sleigh Ride (Boston Pops, Ronettes)
Winter Wonderland (Crystals, Eurythmics)

I like the traditional ones also but heard them so many times since I was young, so the pop songs are great to hear and some of them are fun too. I am sure I will hear them when I occasionally check what is playing on 103.3 WODS and 105.7 WROR.

I've actually met quite a few Jewish and non-Christians over the years who love Christmas music. Perhaps the music is in the mainstream so much that the religious implications are somewhat removed... not to mention that "Little Saint Nick" and "The Christmas Song" aren't exactly loaded with Christian references.

Even if they love Christmas music that does not mean that everyone wants to hear it 24/7. Particularly those that do not celebrate Christmas.

Stores love it because it gets people in the mood and is cheaper than subscription music services. Sponsors love it because they hear it in all the stores along with their spots. It even gets their spots in their competitors stores. Nice way to get YOUR message in THEIR stores. OF course, that can work both ways but it still is an interesting marketing gimmick.

Bring on the Cheech and Chong Christmas music ;)

All I want for Christmas is You
I wouldn't put this on the same list as Dominic It's probably the most significant original Christmas song in the last 25 years. Dominic is slightly below The Chipmunks.

Good point, I should have made a seperate list for the "novelty" songs.

Let me say this.
A lot of you have indicated that you are changing your pre-sets because of our annual Holiday format, which is cool, that's your choice and right.
However, I do want to say that it is an honor and a privilege to have been one of your pre-sets to begin with :)
Thanks, and will be looking forward to seeing you back on Dec 26th. Have a great "?" season!

Walk into any bank branch with female tellers and they've got one of the all Chirstmas stations going full tilt..its all about the Benjimans and the Estrogen..and enough research has been done now that shows that key female demographics love it, eat it up, and look forward to it..

As for me, I hate Christmas with every fiber of my being..thanks to Steve Jobs and the I Pod, I have less and less need for commercial radio..

I still say they should have waited till Friday the 27th.

OTOH the 13th seemed to be a middle point between the 27th and the day some folks would had watned it to start November 1st.

I couldn't wait to get the hell out of Kohl's today... X-mas songs about snowmen and chestnuts and it's 50 degrees and warm out.

I do one holiday radio show, the week before and, trust me, there are plenty of x-mas songs on there you won't find on any other station around here ;D

For everyone that posts here that they hate it, I'm sure you know that there's someone else that feels quite the opposite about it. I was quite surprised and happy to see some people my age (mid 20s), that probably rarely listen to radio at all, post on facebook that they were happy that there was now Christmas music on the radio. These people were female, which I think is what they're going after mostly. People just need to realize that it's going to happen, and get used to it. Hey, at least they pushed it back a week from when it started last year.

WODS occupies a preset on my car/truck radios, and I probably won't listen as much in the next month and a half as usual, but I'll be back.

Three times as many, if the poll results on the WODS web site last week are to be believed.

If people love it and it makes money, then fine. I'm just saying I'm not taking part in it. I consider the Christmas season to start around Thanksgiving and I don't really get into it until a couple wks before 12/25, but that's me.
Others do enjoy it, and don't mind it starting early (...especially SPONSORS) and hey, that's fine, but they're
off my presets for a reason.

Go WBOQ! Go WKLB! Go talk radio, sports talk, non comm, XM stations, etc. I have plenty of other options.

I love Christmas but it isn't time for it yet, just in my own mind. Hey, maybe others are like the villagers in the song Buon Natale: "and that is the reason the Christmas season is celebrated all year"

Oddly, XM, which has always started most of its Christmas channels right after Thanksgiving, is waiting until Dec. 7 this year to start two of them: the country and classical channels. Two others, playing contemporary and older holiday popular music, debuted this week, pre-empting the '40s and "love songs" channels.

JJ.

You sir are a class act and a true professional. It has always been a pleasure to listen to any program you host.

All the best wishes of the season to you and yours.

Thanks for your input on the discussion board.

This is the time of the year when I put WODS and WROR onto my presets, not off them. ;)

I am happy that I can usually get North Shore 104.9 in my area, and when I can't, I can still always stream it online instead. :)

Christmas music will invade the Worcester market starting Monday morning. Oldies 98-9's (Webster-Worcester) Adam Webster mentioned this morning that 98-9 will go all Christmas on Monday morning. Oddly enough, he mentioned this while doing his 6:25 am newsbreak on Bruce Palmer's morning show on 100FM The Pike. I don't know if he mentioned it on his own station.

Oldies 98-9 (WORC-FM), The Pike, and WXLO are all Citadel sister stations in Worcester and The Pike is what I listen to at home. Hopefully, neither they nor WXLO flip anytime soon if at all.

Well, it appears Mt. Washington's 94.9-WHOM has taken the X-Ma$$ plunge——at least they were between 6-6:15am this morning! P=]
