Once Again

WYRK owns the Buffalo-Niagara Falls market! Persons 12+; 25-54; 35-64; 18-49, it's all good.

Clay Moden runs circles around every other morning team in Buffalo, including the high profile, cash dollar names like Shredd & Ragan, Janet & The Pickle and Norton & Lederman.

And what does WYRK get on these boards? Ignored!

Buffalo is a country market and WYRK owns it! Oh, and before anybody says "WYRK scores those huge numbers because there's NO COMPETITION," consider the fact that the station long ago vanquished the distant signal challenger, thus serving notice on any other group that might consider mano-a-mano combat.

Let's give WYRK andf its staff a round of applause and the props they deserve!

Someone on another (WNY) board out there is hinting of another station out there going country.
*If* this is at all true, and it happens to be CKEY101.1 FM,
I'm willing to bet they'd be more interested in going after the crowd 91.7 abandoned when it switched from Country to Variety hits (as Giant 91.7)
Buffalo would most likely just be the cherry on the ice cream sundae, and nothing more. (I could be wrong...)

***Note: the poster on that board never actually specified who would flip to country.
101.1 is just the "wild"est guess mentioned by other posters as part of the speculation there.

WYRK deserves props. They have maintained monster numbers for a long period of time. Clay Moden is a very good young broadcaster.

As far as "Buffalo is a country market" is concerned, add up 97-Rock,WHTT, WJYE, Star, Jack, the Lake, and Kiss. Their combined market share would indicate that this is a "rock" market in all its various forms.

WYRK does indeed score those big numbers because there's NO COMPETITION. You can hardly consider a poorly-funded fringe player who features a jock named after a former Dolphins coach in a major daypart as "competition".

If WBUF wasn't owned by the same group, they'd be country in a heartbeat. Nobody else is doing badly enough to abandon their current format and challenge WYRK. Other markets have shown that even a dominant country station like WYRK can be challenged by a competent competitor.

If you are a WYRK fan don't feel too bad. In my opinion WYRK doesn't get talked about much because they are consistently #1. Now, if they slipped from #1 to #5 we'd be talkin'!!!!
