Once-in-a-lifetime E-skip report from Yakima WA...a Northern dream come true...7/7/2026

A lifelong dream has been accomplished. On July 7th, 2026, I was able to knock out a well-wanted new province and a new state by E-skip. I can't remember any other time in the past 15+ years when the clouds aligned in a way that made this possible. There was also E-skip a bit later to Minnesota with some new logs, and compared to the first half, I'd say it was blah ;)

When I got to my DX spot, the band seemed dead at 12:40 PM PT, but that was because there were very few FMs making their way on skip. Because this was the Great White North! The dream opening began.

12:44 PM - 98.1 CHON-FM Whitehorse, YUKON TERRITORY!!; with '50s and '60s hits and an ID for Indigenous Radio, CHON FM, Yukon and Whitehorse references. Huge signal! NEW #943, NEW PROVINCE, 1.45KW at 1129 miles!
12:46PM - 89.7 KLSF JUNEAU, ALASKA!!!! Pat Barrett's "I've Got a Fire," and K-LOVE IDs. TEF RDS PI matches to KLSF as well. Also had a great signal. I have been looking for Alaska on FM for many years. I'm still in shock. NEW #944, STATE #22 on FM, 1.7KW at 993 miles!!
(Can you imagine what the FM dial sounded like on an Alaskan cruise at the same time? Probably loaded with Seattle, Boise, Spokane, and Tri-Cities.)
12:50PM - 105.1 KTKU Juneau, AK; TAKU 105 RDS and ID on tape! NEW #945, 3.8KW at 995 miles.
12:53PM - 100.7 KXLL Juneau, AK; adult alternative music and RDS PI match, radiotext mentioning KTOO. NEW #946, 6KW at 992 miles.
12:54PM - 106.3 KSUP Juneau, AK; ID "From downtown to the Glacier, this is Juneau's hit music station, Mix 106." NEW #947, 10KW at 993 miles.
12:58PM - 91.7 KAUK Juneau, AK; with NPR promos and KTOO/KAUK IDs. NEW #948, 9KW at 1004 miles.
12:58PM - 104.3 KTOO Juneau, AK; parallel to 91.7, same programming. NEW #949, 1.4KW at 992 miles.
1:00PM - 96.7 K244CU Juneau, AK; with mention of 96.7 Juneau, a Christian school, and into a sermon program. This is a Moody Radio translator. NEW #950, strangely, 980 watts (!?!) at 1000 miles.

1:01PM - 94.1 KXLP Eagle Lake, MN; classic rock and KXLP IDs. NEW #951, 3.7KW at 1295 miles. The mainland USA started to mix with Alaska on some channels.
1:02PM - 97.5 K248DQ Juneau, AK; this station did not ID at the top of the hour, it had Sean Hannity's show. Went into Fox News and eventually got an ID through some local ads and mentions of Juneau and KJNO (630 AM). NEW #951, 250 watts at 999 miles!
1:06PM - 92.1 KRUE Waseca, MN; with Jerry Reed song and RDS PI match, "KRUE 92" RDS PS. NEW #952, 9.8KW at 1326 miles.
1:07PM - 93.3 K227DP Juneau, AK; with State Farm commercial mentioning Juneau, into classic hits (repeats 1330 KXXJ). NEW #953, 250 watts at 995 miles.
*I also had a 104.7 with BBC programming. Assuming it was Sitka. Also a 102.7, likely Juneau, did not ID...and a 102.3 very faint talk station popped up numerous times. Maybe Haines AK? I was looking for double-hop to Fairbanks or Anchorage and it didn't happen. But I am MORE than happy...and still in shock tonight...to have ALASKA in the logbook on FM. I have several AMs from Alaska, including KTZN, KFQD, KTKN, KGTL...but never an FM. Until today.* The rest below are from Minnesota.

1:09PM - 93.1 KATO New Ulm, MN; with RDS match. Relog, 100KW at 1287 miles.
1:11PM - 95.5 KCHK New Prague, MN; local ads mentioning St. James. Relog, 6KW at 1309 miles.
1:15PM - 101.5 KEMJ St. James, MN; Emoji 101.5 ID. NEW #954, 14KW at 1272 miles.
1:19PM - 100.5 KXAC St. James, MN; mixed w/ KWIQ, country and ID "Minnesota 100". NEW #955, 34KW at 1281 miles.
1:21PM - 94.7 KKCK Springfield, MN; severe weather coverage, RDS "KKCK". Relog, 50KW at 1228 miles.
1:23PM - 89.3 KCMP Northfield, MN; stopset and DJ mentioning some event in Minneapolis, I believe a music festival. NEW #956, 97.6KW at 1329 miles.
1:26PM - 91.3 KNCM Appleton, MN; PI match, All Things Considered, MPR News. Relog, 82KW at 1182 miles.
1:29PM - 93.5 KSCR-FM Benson, MN; PI match and severe thunderstorm warning. Relog, 25KW at 1200 miles.
*There was also a possible "W---" ID on 93.5 at the same time. More later.*
1:34PM - 98.5 KTIS Minneapolis, MN; last gasp with Christian music and ID "98-5 KTIS" over KLGW. Relog, 100KW at 1320 miles.

The amazing audio...coming this week. Sooner than later. No doubt a day to remember.

Here is the RDS proof!! Also some MN stations
