One and a Half Men

I havent confirmed this from any other source, but Mike Huckabee claims that CBS might try "One and a Half Men" as a concept if Charlie Sheen leaves America's most popular sitcom, rather than cancelling the show.

I can't see it working, since Charlie is a big part of why I enjoy it so much, but Alan and Jake could still be enjoyable.

Anyone remember how the "Three's Company" spinoff "Three's A Crowd" fared?

Or Mayberry RFD after Andy Griffith left his show? How about Sanford and Son with just Demond Wilson, or The Sanford Arms and Sanford with just Redd Foxx?

I was just going to mention that. I somehow didn't submit my comment. I was going to say Vicki was cute and smart, but that show didn't do so well with the strongest actor from the parent weries--which won him an Emmy!

But "8 Simple Rules", which I watched for John Ritter, is repsonsible for my enjoying "Big Bang Theory" so much. Because in addition to being from the creators of "Two and a Hlaf Men", it has Kaley Cuoco.

Charlie Sheen once replaced Michael J. Fox, which is a big reason why I watched "Two and a Half Men" in the first place. And "Family Ties" ... well, you get the idea.

The Sanford Arms didn't have either Redd Foxx or Demond Wilson. I don't remember much about it, but some of the regular supporting cast like Grady and Aunt Esther may have been on it.

"Rules" did OK after the death of Ritter until too much tweaking (in the form of adding and emphasizing David Spade) and Katey Sagal's desire to return to her *singing* career did it in. Had they stopped with the addition of James Garner to the cast and remained true to some form of the original story line (emphasis upon the girl's "growing up" issues) the show could have remained popular. Although Spade did have some memorable moments he was always a third wheel and overshadowed an otherwise fine cast.

The addition of James Garner added depth to the character line-up and partially replaced the missing Ritter. Sagal's increased presence proved she could handle a leading role as well. But audiences are fickle and by the middle of the second season the cast changes and story lines were disappointing. (Spade's character as a substitute teacher was completely unbelievable and Sagal's romance with the high school principal, although very funny at times, was not strong enough.) ABC moved the show to Friday nights where it virtually disappeared.

Jon Cryer is definitely strong enough to carry a show but whether it can be this one remains to be seen. Some form of Charlie's character will have to be added because Alan and Jake can't carry it alone. Too bad too because it is generally the best comedy on TV (if you can get by the emphasis on ...... you know).

The show's got to end sometime soon, when Jake stops being "half" a "man" ... right?

Actually, it wasn't the ratings that did the show in, but rather the 1971 "Rural Purge" on CBS that also claimed "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Hee Haw".

Some ideas (which probably don't have a chance in hell) - Alan's practice takes off and:

Alan and Judith get back together in Charlie's house (Charlie having been snuffed when Berta, not recognizing Charlie disguised as a pool table, racks his balls).

Judith and Herb split and Herb moves in with Alan. Show is retitled "One-half Man & Two Geeks".

And don't forget Green Acres.

Lisa, taking behind-the-wheel driver ed at "Hootersville" High:
"Oh, a pra-nun-dul*...my husband has one of those on his car too."

They just need to tweak it a bit, no wholesale changes. It's not like it's "Hamlet" or "The Odyssey."
They could just coast on their past "laurels" and make it "Two Men" [which is still an exaggeration]. Have Jake take over Charlie Sheen's ol' letch role. He could play the hotties from the high school-age on through college and beyond in one part of the house while the dad plays Clueless Squaresville Divorced Chiropractor in the other part. Jake's learned from the master, and it would allow the franchise to continue for another generation. Throw in Botoxy Mom/Grandma for the occasional child/grandchild-relationship issue and play up the acerbic houselady, and you won't notice Charlie's gone.

I'm sure they'd at least give it a try without Sheen, but it wouldn't work. Hey maybe CBS should ask Michael J Fox to replace Sheen, now that would be ironic ;D

Then again, considering the show is one bathroom joke after another, it might work.

Oh, does he? Does anyone here remember "The Famous Teddy Z"?

Cryer has 8 seasons of work on "Two" since then. Judge as of now, not long ago.

If you've watched "Two" you might have noticed it's Cryer who does 90% of all the physical comedy and can hold his own on the rest. It's also true he plays off Sheen and would probably need a foil to do as well on another show. Whether C(BS) can find that chemistry again is unknown.

True, but a show set in Mayberry that didn't star Andy Griffith didn't have a chance anyway. Of course, that show had "jumped the shark" when Don Knotts left a few years earlier.

Sheen is just playing the old Hollywood game of "give me a big raise or I will quit."

Considering how much money this guy must shell out in alimony and legal fees, I'm willing to bet that Charlie will be around for another couple of seasons. He needs the paycheck!

Should Sheen leave then I would suggest giving "Berta" a larger (no pun intended) role. She is hilarious and would add a lot of comic relief to the program.

The third option is just cancel the show. It's been on a number of years and has had a good run.
