One FORMAT... what would it be?

If Columbus was automatically given a News/Talk format but only could have ONE FM station in the city to cover the entire market... which format would be the format to cover the whole city?

You stole my thunder.

Several months ago, I was in Akron and was dialing around and found WAKR 1590. For some reason, it felt almost like I was going back in time and hearing WTVN of the 70's. Full service MOR feel, pacing, news, sports and music flow. The whole package.

I would even go back to playing instrumentals going into news instead of trying to back time into it. I loved it when TVN, WKRC, WLW and othrs would play the Elgarts, Pat Williams, Charlie Barnett, Mancini, Nero, Roger Williams, Ronnie Aldrich, Booker T, the Nite Liters and so many others leading into the top and bottom of the hour news.

Maybe it was a nostalgia only thing. But it just felt so good at the moment.

I wouldn't necessarily call it nostalgia, I'd call it real good local radio, that serves it listeners

Okay, so we have umpteen country stations, umpteen classic rock stations, upteen pop stations and a couple of stabs at alternative.

How about something different?

I am really finding myself enjoying Christmas music from the standpoint of the sound and harmonics. So rare to hear music with real musical instruments. Would most of the music they're playing on 93.3 and 94.7 be considered acoustic? Lounge maybe?

I heard a jazzy version of "Oh Christmas Tree", but not too jazzy that it was boring. It was upbeat and almost sounded like pop. And it was real instruments and real music.

Christmas music gets great ratings. What about real music with this kind of sound 24/7/365? I bet it would attract a very wealthy demographic, especially on a good signal like 93.3 where you could really enjoy the harmonics.
