One Interesting Thing About Citadel

Right after they took full control of KSFO......suddenly EVERY show syndicated or not was cleared to be streamed over the internet ;D

Could you explain what the situation was before? What do you think the significance of this change means?

The presence of Citadel in the market is a threat for local talk, as far as I'm concerned, with the "suspension" of Bernie Ward, although others here will disagree.

It was ridiculous today - Saturday 12/29 - listening to Citadel's 770 KKOB at 6pm on the skywave playing re-runs of Jim Villanucci from who knows when.

Before it was just the morning show streamed over the net on KSFO.......dead air on the web stream the rest of the day. It always seemed rather a mystery to me that other stastions elsewhere both CC and non-CC stations were streaming Rush, Coast to Coast etc, while KSFO was never "cleared" to carry anything but their morning show according to their own website.

Well Disney had some very restrictive policys when it came to internet, Citadel does not, also the indvidulal
syndicators also have some special contractual terms with each station that takes their syndication. In the case of Disney it was because they did not want to get into rights fee's for things like music, or extra talent fee's with AFTRA. Bottom Line...It was their Bottom Line. They would not even let advertisers take radio spots
produced at ABC stations and put them on the advertisers own website, even if they offered to pay the talent. Since Citadel has so many stations that take the same syndictions, I'm sure they have some sort of corp. agreement with the Sydicators that allows them to stream.
