Ladies and gentlemen,

I am excited to announce that on Wednesday May 23rd starting at 2pm, I am planning on breaking the WBRU (and possibly all of New England) record for longest on-air shift. The current record is 25 hours, I plan on going at least 28 hours, after which I may consider going for the WORLD record for longest radio show, which is 100 hours set by some crazy dude at WFMU in New Jersey. That being said, if anyone is interested in visiting the studio at 'BRU, please send me an e-mail at donnikhan AT wbru DOT com .

that is all

donni....I'll be jetting to Ireland; but good luck (I would have stopped by)!

Take my advice and get press releases out to All Access, R&R, Billboard and any other industry mag/paper you can, the Providence Journal, The Phoenix, Ch 6, 10 & 12 and have a great time....take tons of photos.

Wow..pretty sweet idea man! Man, I'd love to stop by and show my support! BRU should also help with making this a big deal..Make T-Shirts for the occasion saying "I was present at the lengendary Donni Khan's 100+ hour show"..I can see it now!

Ha, so when are visiting hours?

people can come during business hours 9am to 5pm, if they can't make it during that time, they can send me an e-mail at the address in the first post. I'm not promising that I'll do the 100 hour show, but I am promising the 28 hour show.

Getting the attention of print & television is good. But if your really gonna do this. Think about maybe bringing
a charity into the mix. Maybe you could have listeners bring down a non-perishable food item for The RI. Community Food Bank. And for that. They can get a request played. Just a thought....

Donni,

Are you going to be able to break format? If so. Think about some long songs. For those needed breaks. Here are some
artists that have long songs.

Peter Frampton
Genesis
Iron Butterfly
Led Zeppelin
The Outlaws
Traffic
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Elton John
Grand Funk Railroad
Stevie Ray Vaughn

Don't forget "Telegraph Road" by Dire Straits...my preferred "bio break" track. :)

Actually truthandjustice's post made me think "What? Doesn't WBRU have a computer that can play a few tracks in a row for this poor DJ to go take a break?" Which made me wonder about two things:

  • Does WBRU have computer automation of any kind? Do they run 100% live 24/7? I doubt it but one never knows, and even if there's always a live DJ I can't believe there isn't SOME form of computer playback for promos and commercials and whatnot. Even WERS has automation, they only use it on overnights because of concerns about late-night DJ safety killed off the live 2-6am shifts.
  • Technically you could program a 28 hour shift in perhaps five or six hours' worth of work in terms of researching your music and recording all the voicetracking. Obviously that'd be cheating, but for some reason merely the juxtaposition of these two concepts gave me pause...made me realize how far we've come, so to speak.

VOICETRACKING KILLS MY INNER CHILD!

BRU is live 24/7. We have computers here, but there is no voicetracking. All overnights are live, which is awesome because I was able to screw up REALLLLL bad back in the day.

Good luck to you!

I have been part of a similar fundraising stunt back in the England, with 10 DJs doing 24 hours each from Christmas Eve to New Year!! Each DJ started at 9pm, so the overnight was out the way at the start of the marathon!

Then we played vinyl; 45s, 12 inch discs and albums!

Also had a team consisting of a producer and a couple of runners, to keep the DJ company during the overnight hours, and to get food!!

Enjoy every moment, and I promise you will sleep well on Thursday!!

Geoff

thanks for the support everyone!

I ended up doing all 29 hours, is that some sort of local record or something?

And when you get into the real radio world dump the work horse ethic. It only gets you more work.

No way, I refuse to dump the work horse ethic, besides, if my work is making the station more money then with a mixture of unpaid interns and more money for me even more work could get done without burning me out.
