One Month Review Of The Zone 93.7

Just curious what everyone things so far. We already knew about O&A, I like Dennis Miller, I think he needs to refine the show a bit to make it a little more interesting though. Steigerwald I've never caught on radio yet. John McIntyre is horrible and not funny, Paulson is Paulson, I like Dave Damechek's show, always hated Loveline, and never heard the overnight show with John and Jeff. I also like having Sporting News Radio available on weekends. I wanted to catch a Nascar race while in the car last Sunday, but apparently they're not carrying Nascar anymore.

Overall I give the station a C.

As far as the NASCAR thing, my understanding is that they run the races that MRN carries, but there are races covered from PRN (Performance Racing Network) that's carried by WPTT that 93.7 can't carry.

So basically, if you want to hear the race and it's not on 93.7-FM, go to 1360-AM and it should be there...

I am with you SteelRocker. I like the station, however, I cannot stand McIntyre and his ditzy co-host. I was suprised, I liked him when he was on KDKA and on WPTT when Lynn was on sabbatical and was talking politics (even though I often disagreed with him), but geez, his new show on The Zone is terrible!!! Still better than that Kidd Chris but not much better!

Crickets chirping are better than Chris Kidd (or was it Kidd Chris?).

YOU'RE better than Kidd- and I've never even heard you speak!

Where do you people all find the time to listen to every station on the dial 24/7?

I haven't dialed in all the time, but here's what I've heard.

Miller- Really pleasantly surprised. I always thought he was a smart @ss but I find his show very entertaining and thought provoking. To me, it blows Glenn Beck in a similar time slot away.

Damechek- Another pleasant surprise. I like how he's trying to get new voices on the air. The voice of a fan- which was something needed in this town. He's cutting edge- but doesn't speak down to you.

But I DID get upset when he questioned Pittsburgh's "Most Liveable" rating. Folks, we need that in our community. I don't want to hear where San Francisco is a better town.

Memo to Damechek- I, and the rest of your audience, is straight.

Staggy and Paulsen- You knew what you were getting here. It seems to me interesting that two entities who failed at WBGG would now be asked to lead The Zone, but regardless.

Interestingly enough- The Man Station seems to be conservative in the morning- liberal in the afternoon.

Johnny Mac- My grandmother told me if you can't say anything nice not to say anything at all.

Really haven't caught much of the station, though it was a nice alternative last weekend during the NFL draft, where you could go aomeplace and listen to coverage of the draft without the usual drone of local idiots filling time between the three hours it would take until the Steelers picked again. The weekday stuff I haven't caught yet to make a judgement on one way or the other.

McIntire seems uncomfortable talking about such popular culture things such as American Idol. I say let John do the type of talk that he is used to doing instead of trying to retool him into being some type of pop culture aficionado because nobody is buying it. This station should be more personality driven and less about the other schlock which has clogged this format in other markets under another name (FREE FM).

Sporting News radio is not as bad as I thought it would be. Only drawback is that it sounds like it is being done in some underground bunker due to the fact Sporting News Radio is primarily on the AM band.

Paulsen and Steigerwald is a WYSIWYG. Miller is a bit of an early surprise. O&A are still O&A. Dameshek is one where the less I say, the better. Have not heard John and Jeff so I can't say anything in that regard.

Well, I guess the issue was one of clearing CBS' own product, which saves $$ and makes money for the mothership with top-25 market clears.

But they get no ratings. They would sell no ads. The station they were on, with Imus and Leykis, had to pull the plug. The show does not play anywhere outside the Baltimore-DC corridor.

Don and Mike were on until the end. As to Leykis, he is decidely much more west coast, but for later at night, why not? And, please, let's not try and say that a show that fails on 1550 is a failure... God would get a 0.4 share on WURP... oops! WLFP.

Don and Mike are more funny in 30 minutes than Paulson has been in his entire run on The Zone.
