Sorry Miss A...no full time in my future...Ted and Aj would love to have me I am sure...but its not in the cards anytime soon...besides I think the more music morning is the ticket to make us more distinct anyway. Too much useless yakking in the AM (sorry...no offense intended)...someone has to dare to be different.

We have some nice young talent who I know will come a long way. Its their time in the spotlight...I had mine. I am quite happy with the weekends on-air and my NO LONGER BEHIND THE SCENES CONSULTING GIG! I used to HATE consultants and now I am one! Funny how that all worked out

Probably because it's still happening at RSC. Gaffes galore. Typical of a Forever Broadcasting AM station.

Don't feel as though you need to defend the station. We know your husband isn't responsible for the technical issues. Neither is Shannon.

Re: 250 Out of 296!

State College radio is to major market radio what AA baseball is to the major leagues. Sure, there are some people in this market with talent and undoubtedly some people who eventually will make it to the big time. But most won't. And most don't deserve to. That's not a knock on anyone--I didn't make it to the big time in radio either--it's just how it is.

I would suggest that any young person in radio do what I did. If you're 25 or 26 and you're still working in market 250, take a step back and re-evaluate what the hell you are doing with your life. Best decision I ever made.

Incidentally, I've spent most of the evening switching back and forth between 103 and 101. I must say, I'm impressed. I think both stations sound really tight, solid imaging, etc. Competition is a wonderful thing.

Oh, I know that. The morning show is running smoothly now. At night is when it usually just goes off air to static...but I seem to remember that happening even when Dame and others owned it.

Re: 250 Out of 296!

I only asked because there are some who live here (I'm not one of them) and love it here and then just stay here. Kev is a fine example of it. He loves it here in "happy" valley. Did a stint in Savannah, GA and Evansvile, IN for two years each back in the 80's (in his thirty-something years) but WRSC always called him back. He's turned down New York City and other major markets but big cities weren't his thing. It's no secret I have the opposite opinion of this area/county/small town/market/etc. I know Steve Biddle did major market stints as well but ultimately, he came back here and stayed. There are others. Count the old-timers with 20+ years in radio. They all fall into that category. They just love it here.

The G and Hot Bouncearound

Thanks James. I think the sound of the "G" as the crew calls it will only get bigger and better from here. I threw much of my knowlege into the project and AJ is a smart programmer. Simpson is smart like a Fox too. We have a crew so devoted. I see a level of caring from these guys and girls I thought was long since dead in this market. They don't go to work for the paycheck...they go to work because they want to. Everyone on our staff loves the station and the company and loves to be part of what we are all about.

Ultimately I think that will make the difference in the eyes of the audience. In the end, how the audience perceives us will have nothing to do with who pitches or does not pitch the music, who has the best jocks (which is a matter of personal opinion by the way...no 2 listeners will give you the same answer on that question). I think it will come down to which station or stations seem the most comfortable in their own skins and can successfully project that over the air. You get where I am at with that comment. We worked side by side for a long time....including on a rather good (but short) ride on mornings. Let's just say I liked mornings...but mornings did not like me...OUT OF BED AT 4:00 AM...WHAT'S THAT ABOUT???

State College is a small market, but I think there is happily room for both of us (G101 and Hot). Hot 107.9 and Beaver 103 peacefully coexisted for a nice little stretch before.....well we all know how that turned out.

One closing note....people slammed our airstaff for a few goofups yesterday...I applaud them. AJ, Ted and I carefully plotted this tweak to the station for months before implementation...the part-time air staff was kept in the dark all along so that word could be kept "in house" for as long as possible. They were only finally handed the news of the rebranding literally hours before the switch occurred. They were pretty damn jittery all day Friday. As you know, to some of us, rebranding or major format changes or ownership changes are no big deal...been there done that...WELL THEY HAVE NOT! It can be a little scary from their end when your PD and some guy you have no idea what the heck his capacity is come at you and say everything changes tomorrow. I think they did a fine job and things will only get better and tighter over the upcoming days and weeks. Don't judge them until you have walked in their shoes because I can tell you the first major station change I went through scared the willies out of me too!

Re: The G and Hot Bouncearound

Steve, I've always thought that 101.1 was a sleeping giant. Huge signal, but it just never sounded like a professionally-run operation. Glad to see that may be changing. Congrats on being a part of it.

Also, in listenting to 103 last night, I thought it sounded better than it has in a long time. I heard a couple of promos on there that I thought sounded extremely well-produced. I really haven't been listening much the last few months, so maybe this is nothing new. But it was new to me and I liked it. Then again, I'm not surprised. Glen knows his stuff.

Tell Simpson not to sell to Carol or Nick-head! :)

Poor part-timers...destined to have a nervous tic forevermore ;-)

This is true. At least you're actually doing some homework on the topic, like a good reporter should.

Re: 250 Out of 296!

Turned down New York City? Wow. Which station? A guy I worked with had been a part-timer at WAVZ in New Haven during high school and when he went to college at NYU he snagged a part-time gig with 1050/WHN back when they were the Country gun. Within months he was promoted to overnights, then a drive shift--and parlayed that into 20 years as a Top 10 market VP/Programming for one of the big dogs in the biz; earns around $500K a year. Most people don't throw away that kind of opportunity. Tell us Kev's story.

As far as pointing out that SC is a small market and not a large one... that was just to keep everything in perspective. Of course it doesn't mean that some jocks here can't develop into major league talents. But not surprisingly, the general talent level is small market. And, yes, we're going to hear mistakes on the air, here, that we wouldn't ordinarily hear in Philly or LA or Chicago or NYC. That's all...

He's turned down
