One Of My Favorites-Link Wray

> [I just read that Link Wray died. He was a great guitarist.]

Wow. I hadn't heard that. I just saw him last spring at the Green Bay Rockabilly Festival.

A fond farewell to a legend who hasn't gotten his due from the Rock community. Link Wray was the father of the power chord and introduced it on his big guitar instrumental hit "Rumble". Without the power chord, the hard rock and heavy metal of today doesn't exist. Hopefully this will wake up the world and he will be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in the coming years. He surely deserves to be there. It's an absolute travesty that Link Wray is not enshrined there already.
______________

Here's just one link of this great Native American guitarist:

I'm glad some of you guys got his music. And then there's xxxxx's take back a few months ago on Link's Claim To Fame single:
.........................................................................

SuperRadioFan: now playing on WRLL "Rumble" - Link Wray an "Oh Wow" song
for some of you.

xxxxxxxx: It's an "oh, gawd" song to me.
Dated, badly recorded and best forgotten.
...........................................................................

Yep dated and badly recorded. Riiiight

I like Jack The Ripper better than Rumble.

Duane Eddy/ Ventures/ Link Wray

Lemmee guess who said that....OC???

Link Wray was a true great. We really should hear his groundbreaking hit once in a while on the radio.

As I understand it, fights would often break out when that song was played in concert. How many rock and roll songs can make that claim?

Dittos for DUANE EDDY, another innovative guitarist, along with THE VENTURES, who practically invented surf-rock.

No, not Oldies Cat (even OC doesn't diss oldies artists this way), but another REGULAR (very) with whom you've had some -- ah -- discussions :>) [someone I have said just doesn't get it, even though his extensive background would lead any observer to believe this person would appreciate all types of music instead of his very vocal criticism and disrespect of RnR's roots]
Edited by SuperRadioFan on 11/25/05 07:09 PM.
