One song

While in a store recently, Gloria Gaynor's "I will Survive" was on as background music. As it was on I was thinking that this is a song that defines the disco era. My question is, if you could select one song to define the disco era, what would that song be?

Also, if there was one song to define dance music from 1999 to the present, what song would you select?

From 1999 to present? That "Castles In The Sky" song is pretty with it. Either that or "Sandstorm" or DHT's version of "Listen To Your Heart"

Alice DeeJay

"Better Off Alone"

Only dance song to get a lot of CHR play around here (cornfield Illinois) until DHT recently.

Without a doubt in my mind,
DJ Sammy featuring Yanou & Do "Heaven" [Robbins]

Great pick JD, After all, it was the last POPULAR Dance Single, before DHT, and this tune was the one Dance hit that alot of CHRs, and Dance Stations held onto as a recurrent. Even to this day, alot of stations still play this one.

Re: Love this thread

Except Chicago radio stations. Because as David Eduardo said, there can be no dance station without Hispanics and Hispanics have acknlowledged Reggaeton as dance music therfore he thinks, therefore he is, therefore he knows.

Get a straight jacket ready.

"Better Off Alone" and "Heaven" are both great choices... I can't come up with a better one, myself.

Definitive disco era song - as much as I like the choice of "I Will Survive", I'd personally have to go with "Night Fever" by the Bee Gees. Show me anyone who's done (or seen someone) that silly finger-pointing dance when that song comes on the radio or anyplace else, and you'll know what I mean.

For the disco era, Donna Summer's "I Feel Love."

For 1999 to the present, Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone."<P ID="signature">______________

> > The 'anthem' "i will survive" usually gets the nod...

but my top 5 picks..

#5"hands up"
#4(tie)"_something, love..stop-it now, keep _something_love,
can't stop it now...stop-it now,"

#3 "raining men" ( thnx to in living colour).

#2 beegees/thnx to n-trance, "staying alive" and funny
antics at a wedding during this song..

#1 abba "save the last dance" (altough i may be luvin the
remake and not even kno it : )

> Also, if there was one song to define dance music from 1999

> *trick question, since you said...1999/y2k-present...
the songs mentioned,

daRude - sandstorm ; LSD-j (alice dee jay) "better off alone"
(tie for theeeeeeeee best : )
i can't clearly pick one over the other...

-However, runners up will include...
Daft Punk "One More time"
(if it makes it into the post-1999 catergory).

*It really makes it tuff, since u stated, post-1999, i thought of,
gigi-d'augstino ( that is '97/but re-released in 2001)..

<>Funny every one said, Dj-Sammy "heaven" (but no one said, boys of summer)?
thought this song..was better!!

-***Venga Boys : ) /thnx, mr 6 !

-Runners Up:

-"blue" eiffiel(?sp) #65 [one of my faves : )
-"9pm" atb.
-kylie "love at first sight" ( also a personal fave of mine : )

*I hate to say it, but since your post 'defined' the 99-present..
most people see "techno" music..as, a novelity song : well,
one word/maybe 2 words...

hampster dance.

Below, are other honour mentions:

-raptoure iiO.

-(to me) "dj-boozey-wooozey" ( drunkenmonkey)*Instrumental mix of
the hit, 'without e' : ) smiles, cant wait until the world is
without e..hoping the rumour is true M&M is calling it quits..

-whitney houston's "your love is my love...." but the hex-Hector mix.
-pet shop boys..(new york city boy.2000).
-real McCoy "kiss"[early 2000].

Also..cant forget the 'ketchup song : ) / daniel b..gotta get thru this;
elvis vs. junkie XL; moby; basement jaxx-wheres your head @T ? or any thing by sophie ellis baxter; groove armada"i see u baby..shakin that a--"; bob marley 'remixes'....wow, after reading, thinkin' and realizing, the 2000+era of dance isnt all that bad...

we may be in a [small] slump now..but, it takes a moment ( like
at thnx dinn-dinn giving Thanks!! before your fave uncle cuts the turkey) to
remember what we have to be grateful for : ) in this case, when every one
is hungry, and some one wont finish, saying grace...well, like this post
i could talk all weekend about this : ) / but i am gonna sign off..

Is that the one, with the background music, to the price is right?
