One We May Have To Keep An Eye On?

As I have read on the North Florida forum, Rock 104 will be flipping to a country format starting this weekend and leaves Gainesville without a FM rock station. With that being said, WXJZ could fill that hole and flip Smooth 100.9. I believe a similar scenario happened in Reno that cause KJZS to flip.

I'm hope I'm wrong because I love the station, Steve and Quincy do an excellent job. I have nothing to confirm that a flip will happen, but with all the smooth jazz flips lately, we'll just have to wait and see.

The thread to North Florida forum about Rock 104 flip, http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=177142.0

Sorry about the double post. I thought since this was a WXJZ post, I would put it here instead of starting a new thread.

WXJZ/Gainesville Goes Smooth AC

October 15,2010: After a dozen years as a traditional Smooth Jazz outlet, Asterisk Communications' WXJZ/Gainesville moves to Broadcast Architecture's vocal-focused Smooth AC format.

"It was our desire to freshen up our successful 12-year run of Smooth Jazz with new artists and more vocals in order to attract a younger, more mass-appeal audience," WXJZ GM John Starr said. "Broadcast Architecture's Smooth AC is the logical choice."

BA President Allen Kepler said, "We are very excited to assist John, Bill Elliott, and their team on bringing the Smooth AC Network to Gainesville. With typical AC stations moving away from the softer approach, we know that there are many adults looking for a companion to help them relax and enjoy their day. The music mix offers a variety of styles, genres, and eras of music not found on other stations, and we see this to be a solid opportunity to deliver strong 25-54 PPM ratings."

The Smooth AC format is about 75 percent vocals, with core artists including Sade, Michael Buble, Michael Jackson,and Seal. The rest of the music comes from such Smooth Jazz staples as Boney James, Dave Koz, and Chris Botti.

I have to say this sucks. :mad: Sorry everyone. WXJZ was one of the best true smooth jazz stations left. Looks like I will be listening to KYSJ more now. :'(

This numbnut Kepler said the exact same thing verbatim when smooth jazz switched to BA from Jones in Jacksonville.

You see where they ended up.

This should work well in Gainesville. The average age of the population is 35, the average age of the songs on the
Smooth A/C playlist is 30 ::)

"How Long" several times a day. Songs they may recall from a past life? ???
