One WTC

Looks like CBS, ABC, NBC have all filed applications to move to 1 WTC.

So far no radio takers. It will be interesting to see if WPAT attempts to move back, as they're currently short spaced right now at ESB.

We believe that WKCR is also running less power at 4TS than they should be at their height.

Not really. All of the noncomm allocations are done with contour protection. WKCR is protected out to their 60dBu, and have to protect others 60dBu (this is a greatly simplified explanation not taking into account 1st, 2nd and 3rd adjacent channels).

It will be difficult if not impossible for WKCR to move back to 1 WTC at the same coverage, because other stations have taken advantage of the move northward to improve their signals.

The apps to move were all filed over four years ago, who knows if they'll ever come to fruition... what brings it up now?

The simple fact that 1 WTC is nearing completion, and the developers have stated their intention to make it a broadcast site. I'm sure pending apps move that decision along.

Just a general curiosity if any of the radio stations formerly on WTC will move back. The original site was lousy for radio as the master antenna was too close to the roof, but the shape of the new building as well as the increased height shouldn't pose the same problem.

Plus, the radiation and reflection concerns that existed with two towers, no longer exist.

I guess the curiosity got the best of all the people who were saying the new WTC wouldn't be using a real antenna for broadcasting. Yeah, go ahead and try, my curiosity would be there, too.

I still say, OTA TV is dead as a sales tool.

Don't be so sure. I know a good number of people from the younger generation that are cutting the expensive cable cord to go the route of OTA TV and Netflix/Hulu/Apple TV.

Count me among those. Put up a nice log periodic antenna to get all the Philly stations 75 miles away. Can't get NYC due to a rather large mountain to my east. Have Hulu and Netflix on the Internet. In fact, I'm so cheap I've never had cable in my life. My parents had it, but I couldn't justify $80 a month for tv.

And if you've ever watched an OTA HD broadcast vs cable or satellite, the picture quality is stunning.

I have an antenna aimed toward Ft. Myers from my home in Sa-ra-so-ta! for the blacked-out Buccaneer games, as well. But I remember when the Philly channels, carried the blacked-out Giant games. Those channels could be picked up from Union and Essex Counties.

But there have been so many changes in content delivery and skrewing around with the death of analog and the botched transition, you may find others watching OTA, but there is no money demographic to justify it anymore. It isn't worth the electricity or tower rent, especially in NYC!

Where is the OTA for YES?

Let us not forget all the dozens and dozens of FTA satellite television and radio services including some foreign stations telecasting in English.

And let's not also forget all the secondary channels (such as My and Antenna TV on WPIX 11-3 and 4) that aren't carried by some cable and satellite operators.

If those channels are not carried today, they will be tomorrow. The cable operators are not going to leave anything to chance if they have the channel space available.

WPIX has screwed themselfs. their OTA signal sucks here in Greenwich CT so does ABC but FOX's is like a flamethrower and strong as hell. CBS/NBC are Ok. I can get them with trouble. WPIX is gone from cable FYI. Kudos to cablevison telling them to go to hell.

I wouldn't give them "kudos". The only people being skrewd are the viewers.

As a result of zoning restrictions, you can't put up roof antennas in a lot of neighborhoods, anymore.
