ONE YEAR SINCE RON STEPPED DOWN

I notice this week marks the one year mark since Mr. Chapman stepped away from the mic.

It really is a different market without him isn't it?

Although I haven't spoken with him, I hear through friends that he is very happy and indeed doing well.

So much for all the people who said he'd be back on the air in 6 months!

No, not really.
Okay, if you're one of the 3% (or whatever their ratings share is) that listened to him, I'm sure it's different. But to the vast majority of people? No difference what so ever. Even to the vast majority of other radio people, it's probably not that much different. It's not like KLUV (or KVIL for years before that) were the big dog on the block anymore. Don't get me wrong, he was still getting ratings and revenue up till the day he walked away, but he (and his station (s)) were a long time removed from his old days of domiance.

If it was ten or 15 years ago and Ron retired, the change on the radio landscape would be very noticeable. Regretably it is not, because it was very local then, with better personalities overall, better promotions, etc. Now its over all bland, and blandness leads to apathy. He realized that and moved on to enjoy his life, and i say good for him.

The End of One Era, the Beginning of Another

Ron was such a gentleman on and off the air - he always promptly answered my emails. He just exuded class and gentility on the air. Such a legend - there will never be another Ron Chapman. But - from what I have been hearing on the air - Jody Dean is doing quite well in filling some mighty big shoes. I understand ratings actually went up once he took over the reins - certainly no negative reflection on Ron. Just an acknowlegement from the listeners that the KLUV morning show is in good hands, and the Jody Dean legend is now being written as we listen.
