online courses?

Hi everyone. I mostly lurk in the regional boards but I'm venturing out in hoping to have some wisdom imparted on me.

I know a fair bit about the technical aspects of multitrack editing, and I have some sound design experience for television. I've also made promos and the like for the station at the college I just graduated from.

However, I don't know much about the techniques and considerations used for making jingle packages and other imaging. Of course, creativity and skill can't be taught, but I was wondering if there might be something similar to lynda.com or fxphd.com where I could take some online courses about basic imaging for radio?

dkocw, you might be interested in this.  I'm not sure how much of the seminar will deal with the production end or the VO end, but I'm sure if you call Gabrielle Nistico she would be happy to answer your questions.

January 24th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in beautiful Charlotte, NC, is a must attend training event for those desiring to get into Radio Imaging. This workshop will be taught by working professional voice talent and Director of Operations for VoiceHunter.com, Gabrielle Nistico. Gabby has coached the likes of Bob Bergen & Tasia Valenza to name just a few (that should be reason enough to visit www.VoiceHunter.com to learn more).

Good luck!

Thanks for that, yugoldar, but unfortunately work and funds don't allow for a trip to Charlotte and visit to a conference right now. I'm hoping more for something that I can do at home, in my own time at my own pace.

Ya know if you know the basics..most of us around here would be happy to help out. There are so many "tricks" and ideas that it's not easy to try and cram them into a "course".

The best "course" is to spend the hours on the workstation and experimenting. You will probably find something we can all use.

I mentor a course in production and announcing at a local college, and I can tell you the students have come up with some wizard like ideas on how to do a task. What type of system do you have at your disposal? Many of us here can toss some ideas around if you give us a little more info,

No need to spend money..get a few new toys if you have the extra cash, and if not..learn to do magic with what you have..there are literally limitless resources out here.

I've got Pro Tools, which I'm fairly fluent in. Not much in the way of sfx or music beds (which are sort of critical) aside from what can be found free online, so I should probably invest in those...

I have some stuff I've done on my portfolio page at www.radioboy.us.

Perhaps someone could give a listen to the two Podcast IDs on there and give me some feedback on them... suggestions, etc?

I always have a hard time getting the initial push into an idea or way of doing something, you know what I mean? I try to listen to imaging to hear different elements and how they're layered together, but have a hard time visualizing what it would look like laid out in multitrack.
