I support anyone who believes in FREE audio and does not support the abuse of power in communication. We need to develop a new system to better our public radio standards and not let Clear Channel squash and steal from upcoming radio organizations...

the fact that more of what the listner wants to hear, is played on a regular basis. Im sick of Chump Channel always getting what they want when they want it.
Lets keep part 15 am and fm alive, so that will stop happening.

It just went off the air at 3.01 p.m Indiana time. And what happened to the Dance music, When I got back from taking a Shower, it was playing a Block of Hip Hop.

OK, now that the link is straigntend out, lets get to the meat of this "petition".

Basically, it is worthless. It groups "free radio" with pirate radio and the wording is so attrocious that, even with a million signatures, it would be ignored.

In my mind, "free radio" means pre-ClearChannel independently operated local radio stations. If some sort of return to the good old days is to be achieved, it must be done within the political system (which currently stinks as we all know). I don't know how to do that, but badly directed and badly worded "petitions" like this will not help the cause.

Online petition is a pathetic bad joke

> Here is the offical Free Radio online petition sign it here
> http://www.petitiononline.com/FreRadio/petition.html.

I just looked at the petition. ROTFL!

That incoherent petition isn't going to convince anybody of anything, except that maybe the writer shouldn't be allowed to operate complicated radio equipment. It says:

"If you support Free Radio & or Pirate Radio this is a online petition to take back the airwave for the people like they were orginaly setup for. We do not need the FCC here in USA controling what they think where should here on the radio. I it time to take back the airwave and make the Free to a certain extent that will be decided at later time. This petition will be sent to the right people after we get enough signatures. So sing this now and help out in your local level wright your Crongress men and let them know free radio is no joke and lets take away the power of the FCC and bring it back to the people"

It doesn't define what free radio is.

It doesn't say what it means by "take back the airwave".

It doesn't state what you want to do.

The numerous misspellings ("So sing this now and help out in your local level wright your Crongress men") and bad grammar makes it look like it was written by children or illiterates.

Do you expect ANYONE to take this seriously other than as commentary about the pathetic state of public education?

As John Stossel would say ... Give me a break!

I found another petition which might express what the author of the
nonsensical Free Radio Petition wants:

Opinions?

This is the reason for his online petition:

ENFORCEMENT BUREAU
South Central Region

Houston Office
9597 Jones Road, # 362
Houston, Texas 77065

June 22, 2005

Gerald and Linda Dougherty
Houston, Texas

NOTICE OF UNLICENSED OPERATION

Case Number: EB-05-HU-033
Document Number: W20053254002

The Houston Office received information that an unlicensed
broadcast radio station on 96.1 MHz was allegedly operating in
Houston, Texas. On May 19, 2005 and June 10, 2005, agents from
this office confirmed by direction finding techniques that radio
signals on frequency 96.1 MHz were emanating from your residence
in Houston, Texas. The Commission's records show that no license
was issued for operation of a broadcast station on 96.1 MHz at
this location in Houston, Texas.

Radio stations must be licensed by the FCC pursuant to 47 U.S.C.
§ 301. The only exception to this licensing requirement is for
certain transmitters using or operating at a power level or mode
of operation that complies with the standards established in Part
15 of the Commission's rules, 47 C.F.R. §§ 15.1 et seq. The
field strength of the signal on frequency 96.1 MHz was measured
at 3800 microvolts (µV/m) at 115 meters, which exceeded the
maximum permitted level of 250 microvolts per meter (µV/m) at 3
meters for non-licensed devices. Thus, this station is operating
in violation of 47 U.S.C. § 301.

You are hereby warned that operation of radio transmitting
equipment without a valid radio station authorization constitutes
a violation of the Federal laws cited above and could subject the
operator to severe penalties, including, but not limited to,
substantial monetary fines, in rem arrest action against the
offending radio equipment, and criminal sanctions including
imprisonment. (see 47 U.S.C. §§ 401, 501, 503 and 510).

UNLICENSED OPERATION OF THIS RADIO STATION MUST BE DISCONTINUED
IMMEDIATELY.

You have ten (10) days from the date of this notice to respond
with any evidence that you have authority to operate granted by
the FCC. Your response should be sent to the address in the
letterhead and reference the listed case and document number.
Under the Privacy Act of 1974, 5 U.S.C. § 552a(e)(3), we are
informing you that the Commission's staff will use all relevant
material information before it to determine what, if any,
enforcement action is required to ensure your compliance with FCC
Rules. This will include any information that you disclose in
your reply.

You may contact this office if you have any questions.

I see you cleaned it up a bit but it still is a lot of fluff
that makes no sense.

Do you want to:

1. Abolish all licensing.
OR
2. Abolish regulations on content.
OR
3. Just destroy Clear Channel.

The petition is still a bunch of BS and will not get any
serious attention except from pirates and their fans.

Let us know when you fix that.
