Online radio listening posts..

Alan.... Let me add my own note of welcome and appreciation. Best of luck with your efforts along with my encouragement for you to become a regular with us here on the board!

All up and running this end, however we had an internet outage mid afternoon. Antenna working better tonight, still might be able
to improve it a little. But quite a few NA coming through now.

Enjoy
Alan (oldtimer)

I'm getting...
WBBR-1130 NYC good
880-WCBS NYC poor-fair
660-WFAN NYC poor
1700 poor sports talk. This is likely KVNS' new format.
1230 is the usual graveyard mess, but at a weaker strength. Unbelievable how a 1kw mess can make it 4000 miles...

***ATLANTIC MWDX - Northern Ireland, on GlobalTuners.

The node is back for this DX season. The antenna has been re-errected, but I don't think it is quite right yet, needs some tweaking.
This is where I request your help, especially regular users. Have a listen over the next few days and give me your impression.
I know it's still early in the DX season, but signals at sunset time seem to be down on what I remember from last year, could just be conditions are poor ?

Alan,

First, thanks again for bringing your receiver back online.
I have noticed that North American signals have not been coming through. The first station I listen for to check conditions is WBBR 1130 in NYC. Last year it was regularly the strongest. This year I haven't been able to hear it. There have been some auroral conditions here, but I suspect there might be something else going on as I have yet to hear any North American station since you went back online. The only one I think I heard is Cuba on the Ex-band. Are there ex-band stations in Europe because I am hearing a few on those frequencies?
Just my observation. I generally listen around 0400-0500 UTC.

Thanks!

Interesting.

I decided to listen to Globaltuners last night for the first time since last year's AM DXing season.

On the Atlantic MW DX, I couldn't see the receiver and instead, there was mention about using Flash player with different options.

It said I was connected but I could not see or hear anything. There's just a red X in the box where the image of the receiver is supposed to be.

Anyone else know what this is?

Guys, give the East Coast sunset times a try, I seem to get better signals from around 2200z for an hour or so. I never had much luck with the midwest at 01-04z,
Also best DX from this location is just before and after sunrise, currently 0700-0815ish as the Sun is already up in Europe and the MW band is at it's quietest. The antenna seems to be working ok now and I have a null of 35-40db on locals during the day off the rear (SE).
Happy hunting, and please post your logs here, I like to judge how the station is performing (or not) !

Alan (oldtimer)

Oh btw; my node is for MWDX only. Feel free to point that out, if others are listening to European stations during peak DX hours
just ask permission to tune and go ahead after two mins whether you get their permission or not.

Heard WBBR again last night. Haven't heard much else from NA yet. I've gotta try at a different time. I'm sure as the season progresses and I adjust my time schedule I'll hear more.
Listened to LW last year. I forgot what frequency Iceland is on. Do you remember Alan?

Thanks!

I have your node, Alan, but any personal reports from you (and maybe unID's that we can help you with) are welcome.

Who's the Canadian on 620? Hmmmmmm....

Be sure to listen for some of my Miami locals: WIOD 610 (which I did hear on your node), WJCC 1700 (Haitian/Creole language, with English disclaimers at the beginning/end of programs I think, as Radio Mega), and maybe WINZ 940 "The Sports Animal" & WFTL 850 "Big Talk 850" in West Palm Beach might make it across the pond with their directional signals.

cd

620 is listed as CKCM Grand Falls, NF 1kw
Newfoundland is only 2000 miles from here, so can be heard during most evenings.

Iceland on LW
189 - 300kw
207 - 100kw
Both bang in here 24/7 ;)

Yes logged WIOD Dec 2011, WJCC Feb 2012

Cheers
Alan

Only could DX one channel tonight, but conditions seem good...

750-BBC World Service, so CBGY Bonavista, NF 10kw CBC R-1. One other station which is likely WSB Atlanta. 0715 Zulu.

Things were better tonight on Atlantic DX. Heard WBBR,(good)WBZ,fair-good) WABC (weak), 1510 in Boston (weak) and WWKB (good).
Still no WINS, CFRB, of CFTR, all stations that were usually strong last season. I'm sure as the season progresses conditions will improve.
I remember last year I didn't even start listening until November and things didn't peak until Dec & Jan.

Tonight's DX from Atlantic DX (0500 Zulu)

590-VOCM St. Johns, NL fair with C&W
600-CBNA Newfoundland + an SSer
650-CKGA Gander, NL
660-WFAN New York
670-Cuba very weak
740-CFZM Toronto good
760-weak station likely WJR Detroit
770-WABC New York fair-good now (tons of Hurricane Sandy coverage)
780-likely WBBM Chicago but real weak
880-WCBS New York good with Hurricane Sandy coverage
930-CJYQ St. Johns
1010-WINS New York fair with Hurricane Sandy coverage
1030-WBZ Boston actually very poor
1050-WEPN New York ESPN Deportes poor
1060-SS station (likely Cuba)
1120-likely KMOX St. Louis, more about Sandy
1130-WBBR New York, plus a couple others
1150-UNID talker (maybe WHBY again), poor
1670-CJEU Gatineu, QC very poor
1680-SSer which is likely WTTM-NJ

I didn't hear WBBM last night when I listened, but I did get it several other times along with WLS last year. You were listening later than me so it might have been coming in when you listened.

Just gave a quick listen to Atlantic DX. Lots of Spaniards. WBBR strong as usual was the only US station I heard. Got a top of the hour ID from VOCM (weak). No Toronto or any other Canadians for me around 0400Z.

0500Z update: WCBS coming in with reports of Sandy through lots of noise. CFRB with late night comedy show, also noisy. Best TA signal WWKB good & in the clear when I heard it. Also, WFED in a mix & weak. Also WTIC fair with coverage on hurricane Sandy flooding.
