Online radio listening posts..

On Atlantic MWDX: "570 News" CKGL from Kitchener Ontario with end of Rangers hockey game, fighting it out with Radio Reloj. Approx 0135 11/12. Next door CFRA Ottawa was poor on 580 and matched up with web stream. Onward....

I am still not hearing anything :( I even "downgraded" the Firefox per a few pages back. I'm kinda wary of any other browser. The "missing plugin" notice told me to download "Unreal Player" which I never heard of. I think I will remove that.

What in the world is going on?

Oh BTW the GT receiver page (AtlanticDX) doesn't look like the old Yaesu-type receiver....just a basic computer page. Is this normal?

Please post or PM me if anyone has a solution here.

The tuner is still accessible if you just click the Connect button and ignore the missing plugin request. The plugin just allows for a separate audio player that probably has less delay. If you want to install the Unreal player in Firefox you can download it at the link I posted, its a really small file and its safe.

Unreal Player will help with lagging. Pressing medium quality or low quality only means quite a bit of lag between channels.

Atlantic DX 0745Z (couldn't sleep)

I only got a few:

660 WFAN very weak
760 Very faint signal--WJR I guess
1010 CFRB & WINS both weak
1130 WBBR good with something underneath
1510 WUFC barely
1520 WWKB good signal
1700 Sports--either KVNS or XEPE weak

For those of you hearing sports on 1700 on the Atlantic MWDX globaltuners.com node, here's a few-minute audio clip, recorded around 4am local time in January earlier this year, which may help determine if it's XEPE (and not KVNS or KBGG).

http://www.mediafire.com/?uytdnncefx78z71

I was using the barefoot GE Superradio III from about 15.6 miles / 25 km north of their transmitter. That signal strength is also typical for midday reception.

When I heard XEPE on that node last month, I never heard the ID. Instead, I confirmed it by the PSAs targetting mexico while listening to their local OTA signal on my PL-398mp. "This program is public, not .... any political party, and shall not be used other than stated in the program" was what did it for me. It was very weak, though - while that ad made it through, I could not hear the soft+rapid-spoken TOH ID at all. Even if you can't recognize the words in the PSAs listening on the node, hopefully you can recognize the voices and the cadence. They frequently play PSAs like that almost whenever there's a break, not just around TOH. Also the TOH legal ID is at 2:03 in the clip.

As for KVNS, even though it's near the Mexican border, I don't expect they'd air PSAs like those, as they are a US-licensed station. Maybe someone who gets them 24/7 with a clear signal on basic equipment (like maybe 114+ dB S/N for the unmodulated carrier on a crystal set with no antenna or ground, output to a home theater speaker bypassing any powered audio amplifier - wondering what field intensity in mV/m that might be) could confirm or deny that?

Now how much longer will I have to wait before I see a report of someone hearing XEPE on that node considerably stronger (for example at least 30-40 dB better S/N ratio) than I hear it here? ;)

@crainbebo---1700 WJCC is Haitian/Creole. But it sure isn't English except for ID's and the disclaimer "The preceding was a paid program, and does not necessarily reflect...."

Radioman: I agree that your 1200 was CFGO. Almost certainly. They pick up a lot of ESPN stuff at night, so Monday night football would fit right in.

I took the online receiver for a short "test drive" one night last week after being away from it for nearly a year, but conditions were pretty lousy. Sounds like things have picked up a little, so I'm anxious to spend a little more time with it sooner rather than later.

Pretty lousy = No Chicago....LOL! ;D

Cyberdad, conditions were mostly terrible until very recently. They seemed to have improved quite a bit. One night late last week I heard WBBM, WLS, & WCFL--oops--WMVP ;D

I specifically noticed that conditions from Canada & the midwest have been better lately which throws off my theory to check WBBR first for conditions. Anyway, I hope you find better conditions the next time you tune.

PS--after checking their website I am fairly certain that it was CFGO that I heard on 1200.

Looks like another waste of a DX night. Not even hearing VOCM on any freq at 21:30z, usually banging in, not even a trace of
carrier on the SDR..
This is a flaky location for MW, even a hint of solar disturbance and the band goes tits up :)
Hoping for better conditions soon, things have been very poor so far this season.

I posted on here last night, but it seems to be gone. Anyway, the best signals were VOCM and CBN. NFLD was very poor, and WBBR was the only NYC station. Horrible night last night.

I listened for a short time last night, but conditions were bad. Last year reception was much better. Don't know what the deal is this year, but as we all know radio reception can be totally unpredictable.
