St. Paul Alberta SDR again, and how's this for daytime skywave....

2:00pm cst, 1pm MST today (1/12). 2000 UTC. KSL in with a weak but listenable signal and positive ID. 1050 miles.

Very good. KSL really gets out well. I’ve heard them fairly strong on the Arctic SDR and Hawaii.

Interesting DX tonight on the Arctic receiver, 720 KOTZ playing oldies, 660 Fairbanks, 1160 KSL & WYLL battling. KFAB strong on 1110. On the Hawaii receiver I heard KFIR 720 from Oregon apparently running on day power.
This was all around 0600-0640Z.

Great reception from the midwest on the Arctic receiver tonight. All six Chicago 50KWs were in and both WISN and a strong WTMJ were heard between 0630 and 0700UTC. Also KBYR and WLW slugging it out on 700.

I'vebeen going to bed early during my recovery from foot surgery last month. So this is what I;ve been missing. When I've been on the Arctic SDR at around 0200 UTC it's been all Eurpe and the Middle East.

Hope you feel better. If you can stay up later there's been some good North American DX on the SDRs.

Definite reversal of fortune last nigh (Jan 23)t. Commencing around 0225 UTC with WWJ on top of 950

Then moving up the dial....

1000: KOMO. Washington basketball game.
1010: Talk show. Faded before I could ID it. CFRB?
1120: KMOX. Another talk show. Multiple Saint Louis references. Weak
1130: KTLK (Minneapolis). positive ID
1160: Mix of two or three weak signals. Religious program on top more often than not. WYLL?
1250: WSSP. Commercial break for multiple Milwaukee area businesses. I had heard this a week or so ago on the Iceland receiver.
1530: KFBK. Weak but on top. Positive ID.

Good catches on a good night.

I was on the Arctic SDR last night (0100 - 0400 UTC) as well, and the North Americans were coming in quite well indeed.

The only Chicago station I heard was WBBM on 780, but managed to hear quite a few other stations:

760 WJR Detroit, MI
1050 XEG Monterrey, Mexico
1110 KFAB Omaha, NE
1120 KMOX St. Louis, MO
1200 WOAI San Antonio, TX
1280 WWTC Minneapolis, MN
1300 KGLO Mason City, IA
1510 KCKK Litleton, CO
1520 KKXA Snohomish, WA
1530 KFBK Sacramento, CA
1540 KXEL Waterloo, IA
1620 KOZN Bellevue, NE
1650 KBJD Denver, CO
1660 KBRE Merced, CA

The Arctic SDR is by far my most favorite one. Lot of interesting stuff can be heard on there. Where else can you hear stations from Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and the Pacific in one place. I have been using both the North American antenna and the Asia/Pacific antenna. I even started to keep a log of my catches.

I agree that the Arctic receiver is overall the most enjoyable to use.

And regarding the Arctic receiver, conditions toward North America were only good towards the Pacific NW, Western Canada and of course Alaska. Around 0630UTC I heard KOTZ playing 60s oldies with a good signal. 1130 Vancouver was in pretty well, KOMO strong as usual.
660 Calgary was fair/good. The only station from the Eastern half of the US that I heard briefly was WYLL.

I noticed that you were on the SDR at the same time as me, and was hoping you'd post about your experience. I agree that it's probably the most interesting SDR in the lineup....although there are several other good ones for AM broadcast band DX.

Question: I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know how to switch between the antenna's. I'm sure it's not exactly rocket science, but I'm stumped. How do you go about it?

I think they are two different SDRs. Each antenna has their own URL. I just open the URL depending on the antenna I want to listen to. If there is a way to switch between the antennas without opening a new URL I would like to know myself. These are the URLs for each antenna:

http://arcticsdr.ddns.net:8073/ (Asia/Pacific antenna)
http://arcticsdr.ddns.net:8074/ (North America antenna)

You are right cyberdad. There are other good SDRs dedicated to AM DX. I like the Edinburgh, Indiana as well.

The KA7U Weiser SDR can be phenomenal during good conditions for NDB DX. I have heard everything and anything on the NDB band - Nunavut, Ontario, Iowa, even the Galapagos Islands once. AM is also real nice.
I also enjoy the SDR up near Edmonton. Had WIBW 580 on there the other night.

I also like the Edinburgh, Indiana receiver as well especially for daytime listening.

Just logged onto the North American antenna and heard the following that I could identify:
603 - Radio Romania Actualitati [either Botosani or Oradea, Romania]
630 - Radio Romania Timisoara [Timisoara, Romania]
684 - unID English oldies
693 - BBC Radio 5 Live with soccer PBP [either Burghead, Scotland or Droitwich, England]
720 - KOTZ Kotzebue, AK with NPR news
756 - Radio Romania Actualitati [Lugoj, Romania]
855 - Radio Romania Actualitati [Tancabesti, Romania] (with Arabic underneath)
909 - BBC Radio 5 Live with soccer PBP [either London or Moorside Edge, England]
909 - Radio Romania Actualitati [Cluj, Romania]
945 - Radio Romania Actualitati [Miercurea Ciuc, Romania]
954 - unID English MOR-type music
1053 - TalkSPORT [Droitwich, England]
1089 - TalkSPORT [a mix of two or more of Moorside Edge, Brookmans Park, or Washford, England]
1179 - Radio Romania Actualitati [Galbeni, Romania]
1332 - Radio Romania Actualitati [Barbosi, Romania]

There were signals on pretty much every 9khz offset. I heard quite a bit of Arabic music and Slavic languages

Which one is the "North American antenna?"

CADXER had the links to the two SDR's upthread. You can also find links at the operator's blog, http://arcticdx.blogspot.com/

I was on the Asia/Pacific SDR last night around 0600 UTC. Not a great time for Asia of course, but heard some interesting European stuff off the back. Most every frequency had something, predominantly Spain, Romania, and the UK. A couple of interesting ones:

1395 - Radio Seabreeze in the Netherlands, listed at 100w at 1,400 miles away
765 - BBC Radio Essex, listed at 500w and 1,600 miles away

I also caught the Joe Pags show on 970 KFBX Fairbanks just before 0600 UTC, with heavy interference from one/both of the Spaniards on 972.

Probably late to the party on this but not a fan of the fact that you can't directly access the map of SDRs anymore without signing in. I don't have a receiver or an amateur call sign, so the site won't let me sign up.
Glad I bookmarked several of my preferred SDRs a while back so I can go straight to them.

Great info. Thanks!. I had come to the conclusion that it was actually two different SDRs. But i still didn't know how to navigate. ....And I'm also a fan of the Edinburgh, Indiana SDR.

OK, I see now that that is the antenna that we've been calling the "Arctic receiver".
