Online Radio Receivers

Thanks for the information, carny. That pretty well confirmed for me why I can't justify getting one right now. (I'll buy a couple tanks of gas instead). But I am looking forward to the technology that lets you listen to internet stations through your car radio.

No problem. I'm crossing my fingers that someone develops something that lets me stream internet radio once I get my 2nd-gen iPhone in a couple of weeks. I'm not holding my breath, though, because of that 5GB cap AT&T has on their data service. Flytunes, the current initiative in that field, looks nice, but it doesn't let you add your own stations.

The good news is that Internet is now available in Mercedes vehicles in Europe. This year Mercedes(Daimler-Chrysler) has an optional Wireless Internet radio receiver available for purchase with all 2008 Models. Allegedly this option will be available on Chrysler vehicles here next year. It does make sense. Do get Internet radio llegitimized, a source for delivery into vehicles is key.. heres a statement from Chrysler..

"Included in the new technologies are an in-vehicle wireless Internet connectivity system, Rear Cross Path and Blind Spot Monitoring systems, a uniquely combined active transfer case and front-axle disconnect system, and a host of in-vehicle connectivity and entertainment systems that offer added customer benefit and convenience.

In-vehicle wireless Internet connectivity

Chrysler is diligently working on an advanced, in-vehicle wireless system to provide increased security and convenience far beyond anything available today. The system will provide high-speed data transfer and convenience, combining WiFi and 4G connectivity for a new level of wireless technology."

This would be huge, and change the map forever on how folks gather their media, and it will be a tremendous blow to terrestrial radio... More job cuts are on the horizon, and I'm not counting on my current radio job to last to much longer... It sucks, but you just need to re-invent yourself and keep up w/ the technology...
