ONN Radio

Does Dispatch's Ohio News Net have radio casts? I thought I heard somewhere they did 1-2 min reports like Skyview (www.skyviewsat.com) does for AZ and CA. I think, especially for Salem's stations, this might be a decent offer for some local news to complement national net casts, as well as for those stations with networks that don't offer BOH casts (ie ABC-E, CBS, et al).

Just an insipid thought. :)

Last i heard, and ive not delt with ONN since 1999 when i worked at cc, they do have 1 or 2 minute news breifs that can be used. I beleive its feed to their affilliates on the 30.. It's been awhile like I said. I know they work on barter , you run their spot loads in exchange for the ONN news, etc..<P ID="signature">______________

ONN News runs at the bottom of the hour on many smaller stations, though it doesn't have much penetration into Northeast Ohio. Off the top of my head, the only NE Ohio station that uses it regularly is WCER/930 Canton.

Yes, WCER/900 runs ONN at the bottom of the hour, although the first feed is actually at 3 before the hour. They produce 13 1:30 casts each weekday. I believe WJER in Dover also uses them fairly extensively.

What's the inter-relation between ONN Radio News and Statehouse Bureau News, to which ex-WTAM anchor Karen Kassler went in 2003?

When I worked at a Columbus-area rimshot, our news department used ONN wraps and cuts to complement our local and regional stories. We did not use the newscasts, but we did frequently contribute stories, a few of which actually made the cut for statewide broadcast. :) My former in-town competitor has since picked up the service and splits their own local news with ONN post-morning drive.

ONN Radio puts out a decent product, though it clearly plays second fiddle to WBNS/10TV and the Dispatch...IMHO, of course. On the other hand, their live coverage of presidential visits to Columbus and other events comes in handy for good soundbites.

There isn't one. They are two separate entities.

The Statehouse News Bureau serves the public radio/TV stations in the state (which is currently under the direction of WCPN/WVIZ I believe). ONN is your "network news"-type service for Ohio (OK...not the best analogy, but I'm sure you get the idea). WEWS-TV is an affliate of ONN.
