OOPS!!

I was listening to (jumpin') Jack Flash on Hippie Radio over the weekend on Saturday morning, when he promoted an upcoming weather update from "Joe Elvis"! He quickly corrected himself to say Joe Case, but apparently, even they don't listen to themselves! Can you say "Freudian slip"? ;D

a few weekends ago..."Jack Flash" was doing a remote...and Chris Lucky intro'd him with
"how's it going, Brian?" ... a nice use of his real first name. No big deal...it happens.

Never a name BUT I have done the calls when I changed stations...
I can relate. I had a weekday shift at one station, and a weekender at another one about 40 miles away. I almost slipped up and gave the calls of my daily station on that weekender, but I caught myself in time.

On a somewhat related note, interesting to notice that Joe Case was doing weather last night on FOX 17 while his voice-tracks were playing on Hippie!

That is why I like "mic flags" in the studio. The worse one I ever did was a station ID "WBRM Black Mountain NC." Instead of WBMS (now WZGM) Black Mountain. After having worked at WBRM Marion NC the day before. Thankfully it was Saturday AM and they were running 500 watts PSA. I didn't realize it until I listened to my air check cassette Sunday afternoon. I went to work Monday and nobody said anything (neither did I).

Even worse..I went from using my real name to Shadow B...( stop laughing the boss gave it to me) ...I called me, ME many times!!

BTW, could someone let Mr. Flash know that he is the ONLY person who cares what time his shift ends, even though it seems to be the main thing on his mind? EVERY time he cracks the mic, he lets us know he'll be with us "til 3" or some such. Mr. Flash, unless the station is signing off when you leave, WE DON'T CARE! As long as the automation runs, we won't miss you. It's just another example of the small-town talent on the station; he just doesn't have anything to say, but he'll keep saying it anyway. And saying it. And saying it.

I accidentally blurted out "You're listening to WHIN - I mean - WAMG Gallatin, TN." Lee Raines should have fired me on the spot. However, he was either still asleep or not listening (highly impossible). Anyway, neither him nor Jack Williams ever mentioned it to me. So I guess it happened early enough on a Sunday morning that no one heard it or no one really cared. :-[

I wish Spider would say something other that "There goes" and 'made it happen"..It's almost as if he has three or four liners..and that's all they run..he sounds so rushed on his talkups..like he's running out of breath at times..I continue to be surprised at what I hear at times music wise..someone really has pretty good knowledge of tunes..even obscure hits..or at least charted songs that stayed for a few weeks before dropping off never to be heard again..

Wow. I'm going to stand up for Mr. Flash here. Everybody on this board has been having a cow about how everyone on Hippie is out-of-market. Jack Flash is right here in Nashville and you're slamming him because he sounds small town. Some of you can't be satisfied.

Could be because both Lee and Jack are decent guys :) and understand that stuff happens.

Not everybody, and not everyone. Joe Case is local, and he has been here for years. And he is apparently inheriting the afternoon shift on Hippie. Nothing against McGill, but at least Case does NOT constantly hit you over the head with that "all-new" crap. ::) And yeah, I am going to keep harping on that until they STOP doing it. ::)

I was always waiting for Coyote McCloud to say "Oldies 96.3" after they flipped to Jack FM and Coyote started at Oldies 97.1 (after they dropped Star 97) but he never did as far as I know. After saying "Oldies 96.3" for years and years, I was almost nervous for him every time a song ended.
I used to work at hotels and would switch from one to another and have answered the phone with the wrong hotel name...(I don't want to say which hotels but they were major chains).
But of course it's worse with radio because hundreds of people are listening!

Why can't jocks say their real name on the air?

witness protection?

When I moved to Little Rock my new boss wanted me to be Shadow...OR not have the job..So I became Shadow. I went back to my real name when I moved back to Nashville. Got out of radio for a bit BUT used Shadow again when I was working part time in radio and didn't want my full time job to find out..

Other jocks accidentally called me by real name. Slip up was not a big deal. Once anything hits the mic it's on the way to Pluto.
A jock at one of my former stations referred to a coworker on air by his real name, not knowing that he used another name on the air. (His real name was similar to that of a former congressman, although our station was not in his district, and he had started using his pseudonym long before that congressman was ever elected to office.) I told her his air name, and told her that if you referred to him by his real name, listeners might expect that congressman to come on the air!
