Open frequency in AC area for iPod transmitter?

Guest
I just got one of those small FM transmitters for my iPod to use in the car. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the best frequency to use in the area would be? I can't seem to find a really good one.

Thanks.

It's not that hard to find static...

Those things have a very small transmitting radius... as long as you find a station... well... that's not there... you'll be fine.

I've always used mine low... college frequencies

Another suggestion, although extreme, is to remove your car's antenna entirely. The radio won't pick up anything EXCEPT for your IPod, but that's usually reserved for people who have XM and have no use for terrestrial radio anymore.

Dumb question - why not just hard-wire it? It's not that hard to do and the sound quality would be 100x better.

When I went to Sea Isle City I used 107.7 for my XM from the Woodbridge on South and that was in use with my old stock stereo......But now with my new Pioneer head unit with Super Tuner III-D I can go the entire length of the GSP and get no interference from 107.5 WBLS.<P ID="signature">______________

I've driven from Toms River to parkway exit 38A and then out the expressway to 41 and around the glassboro region with my iTrip on 87.9 with little interference. Thank god my new stereo has a miniplug port on the front now, though. The quality from those things pales in comparison.

I would prefer to do that, but I don't know how. Plus in my car ('00 Impala LS) the entire front panel of the dash needs to be removed to access the radio. It's too much work for me to do.

Is the radio you have a stock Chevy radio or did you get an aftermarket? I'm not familiar with the stock radios, but do they have an input for something like this?

I would take it to your local Best Buy and Circuit City and ask them about it. If your stereo has the proper setup, you should be able to rig it properly, and my guess is they can do it for less than 50 bucks. You can also take a look at Crutchfield - www.crutchfield.com - they give you detailed instructions on what to do and how to do it.

With how cool an Ipod is, it's a sin to listen to it over FM. I cringe enough when I have to listen to XM over the FM...
