Open House Party or Club Kane

With Club Kane picking up more affiliates for Sunday Night and to those of you who have heard both shows, do you prefer OHP or Club Kane?

I know a new show called "Saturday Night Online" with Romeo that is also picking up some affiliates. Haven't heard it though.

I've heard Saturday Night Online here in Philly (where it is based, out of Q102) and Harrisburg's WHKF. It sounds good, but seems to focus way too much on celebrity gossip and tries to hard to be internet savvy "tweet us your requests!!!"... Plus, they are not dance-friendly at all.

I grew up with Open House Party so I go with them. I like the Purple Chamber of Gold segment they do for the last hour of the show where they play recurrent hits.

Saturday Night Online is where I first discovered "you make me feel" by Starship Cobra. Their mixshows are also mainly uptempo, regardless of the fact that it may be all mainstream hit music dance remixes.

It's not the best show, but it is better than nothing at all going on on a Saturday, Friday, or Sunday night on your local station. It surely beats the hell out of that talk radio program show where teens / kids...etc call in to discuss their problems with some guy for two hours. I don't know about Club Kane, but the best out of all is the Backa Boyz AllStar Hit Mix, which we have on KZZP.

I remember in the past I've suggested syndicated shows like this for boring chr's because it would easily make the syndicated show stand out and look "edgy", similar to how Rick Dees was the highlight of my week during childhood all through the 90's on WSTR.

I suggst Club Kane over both of those shows. WKQI used to play Saturday Night Online for a short period of time and it SUCKED! They replacedthat with a mixshow and I couldn't be more happy.

I definitely would get rid of Dawon McAllister immediately. His show doesn't tailor to the 18-34 demo at all....and I wouldn't dare call in any time soon to talk to him. Maybe add another mixshow or something...but that was a horrible idea to add him on KQI.

Yep, Saturday Night Online revamped a couple months ago and now has mini-mixes every hour. Better than it used to sound, but I'd still prefer actual mixshows on a Saturday night (especially for a heritage big market CHR like Q102).

I would run Kane over OHP.

Zero reason to get rid of DM Live. 1) It satisfies your public service requirements and all that you have to do is run the program off the bird, download the issues summary sheets that they put together for you, slap a station-specific cover letter form on it, and stick it in your public file. Voila - an easy 12 to 15 hours per month of public service elements, if you just run the three-hour Sunday show. If you run DM Late Nights, that's even more for the public file. 2) You would be surprised how well it does with 18-34s in most of the markets that it's in. 3) If your sales department knows what they're doing, you can make a decent amount of money off of it, even though you only have 6:00 per hour local available.

Tell me, what - of those things - can "another mixshow or something" accomplish?

Are you programming somewhere, MattHollidaye OnAir? If you are, please share the knowledge of where, because I would love to come program against you, based on the things that you have written on this website.

"Another mixshow or something" would do two things, in my opinion;

1) It would provide more jobs for local up-and-coming DJs. Already as it stands ClearChannel is reluctant to produce local programming because there's no way in hell EVERYBODY AT KIIS-FM is voice-tracked on almost EVERY TOP 40/CHR STATION CLEAR CHANNEL OWNS. Not taking anything away from the on-air talent at KIIS Los Angeles; I just feel the big market stations-- the Top 20 stations-- should NOT have to revert to voice-tracking out-of-market talent where there's plenty of good DJs on their roster. It's especially the case with WKQI; they didn't have a problem with somebody running the boards overnights before....I doubt if they would continue to have those problems now.

2) It would only make ratings go up. Part of being in radio is being innovative. Rarely do you hear mixshows on a Sunday night/early Monday morning. One doesn't exist? Be the first to do so. Step outside the box and force the competition to step their game up.

(The second reason comes because I'm just a guy who isn't afraid to look for new ways to better a station)

Look, I'm all for having Dawson McAllister if it means fulfilling requirements and everything.....but if it's just there "just because" it needs to be cut. That's where "another mixshow or something" comes in at.

BTW.....KQI cut Club Kane......FML :(

John has a lot of heart that comes out on the air when he interviews artists. I've seen him record one in person...he really makes the performer feel at ease. He should be the Sunday night host, with Kane doing Saturday night...but John's ego simply would never permit that.

As for Dawson McAllister, exercise caution if you air him...Kiss 108 caught some flack a couple of years ago when it was revealed that the show didn't have an attitude towards gays consistent with tastes in this market. Of course, nobody who's listening knows the difference between a corporate mandate and Kiss' actual sentiment, so I ended up reading a post in my Facebook news feed from a friend who essentially said "Matty, I love you...I hope Kiss 108 isn't bashing gays."
