That's a pretty narrow audience focus. Sounds more like a personal ad than a job opportunity.

Are they saying Jake didn't bring passion and focus to work every single day? He didn't understand that the keys to winning are strategic thinking, daily discipline and having fun with your teammates? That he didn't know how to connect with a 37 year old female? That he didn't have proven experience, a teachable spirit, a servant’s heart? And that he wasn't dependable, trustworthy, having reliable transportation, and excellent computer skills?

It doesn't appear they're saying Jake didn't possess those qualities. They put those requirements in every job ad they place.

I'm sure they realize he's a great talent.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the ad. Please. Jake connected really well with his audience. And you could hear his passion for life and the Lord in his voice. Good luck to The River in replacing Jake. I think those people made a big mistake.

Hey Gary, serious question here. You're a program director, according to your sig line. Do you often let great talent go? Can you give any insight as to why someone like Jake would be released?

Found this on the river web site. They called him transparent? Thats suppose to be good?

Jake Sommers is no longer with The River. He joined our team in 2003 and spent the last six years as the afternoon drive host. During that time Jake was known for being transparent, caring and fun. We want to thank Jake for his contributions and also wish him the very best.

Why would their ad be a personal attack on Jake?

It reads like a descriptive help wanted ad that is spelling out exactly what they are looking for in their successful candidate...c'mon...let the drama die, people leave stations, stations change formats, etc, etc...why the attempt at stirring a pot?

I read it as transparent is a good thing. The listener can see (or hear) that Jake isn't a fake, his faith shows (or can be heard) in what he says. Jake doesn't hide his flaws, he lets you know where he's been, so you know that he is no better than others who face troubles in life.

However, I agree, the Rivers write up on Jake's departure was vague and seemingly indifferent.

Well, yes, there is some pot stirring going on. But it's not a personal attack on Jake or even aimed at him. Not by a stretch.

But if Jake has those qualities and used them, then why is he no longer there?

Speaking as a PD, there are many reasons a company might let a great talent go. But I have no idea why Jake was released. I can shed no light as to WCVO's motive.

This is what I do know. Jake is an amazing talent and I count it a personal honor to know him.

I've met Jake, but do not know him. But I will agree with your conclusion. He is an amazing and gifted talent. That's why I'm stirring the pot a little.

Was Jake let go or did Jake resign?

That I haven't heard.

I've not listened to WCVO for years but I do know that Jake is a very talented guy and everyone posting on this board on his behalf attests to his character so maybe after a few years of doing things together it was time for Jake and CVO to go their separate ways...I don't know...maybe both of them have to grow beyond where the other can take them?

I guess what I am getting at is why does it have to be a cloak and dagger situation? why can't it be growing and spreading the wings for both?
