Operation Reach Out and Positive 89.3, WMSJ

Positive 89.3, WMSJ has put together Operation Reach Out to reach out to friends and families affected by Hurricane Katrina.
It's important for The victims and refugees that we unite.

----Details below. Please DO NOT DELETE as the information is important--------

Our goal is that you'd be compelled to join. We're asking that you take this and make it your own just asking people to go to the drop off locations so that we can collect as much as possible as quick as possible to get to the refugees. We're working with the Nazarene Disaster Response deployment centers who work closely with FEMA and the Red Cross.

We are looking to organize all of Maine Media to work together with us in the effort to get the word out. If you'd like to know more or want to be involved please email Chris Scotland at [email protected] or call him at 800-434-3448.

Operation Reach Out
What’s important is that we are all working under the umbrella that is “Operation Reach Out”.

I’ve sent along the link on our website that explains all that we are doing. http://www.positive.fm/community/index.shtml

“Operation Reach Out” is Air ready.

Bisson Transportation is doing all the pick ups and going to handle the Freight down to our 3 depots and deployment centers already in operation. We’re working with FEMA and with the American Red Cross through the Nazarene Disaster Response group. So you can say “Operation Reach Out” is working with FEMA and the American Red Cross and Maine Radio to send down Emergency supplies of Bottled Water and Non-Perishable Food items as well as cash gifts. There is a bank account set up at Maine Bank and Trust under the name Operation Reach Out. I’ve been told, and I do have a call in to verify the validity of the statement, we are already known on the Gulf Coast and they are expecting us. I have a call in to the National Office for verification of that.

How great would it be though to have all of us working under one name and owning that name as our own and yet working together instead of against each other. We felt it would be the right thing to do to offer it out to other places.

We are planning for a truck to leave some time between the 16th and 19th of September. It depends on the truck drivers we have and since they are donating everything we are working with them on this. NDR has 1 deployment center in Alabama and 2 in Louisiana, with some coming to New Orleans and Mississippi.

We have logo’s, and pdf files I can send to you as well. Like I was saying when we spoke on the phone we are not looking to get glory from this. We are looking to make sure our fellow Americans are being reached. How great would it be to see this thing through and all under 1 common name.

We’d also like to have the Maine Media Outlets united and have them broadcast live from a Maine Bank and Trust location, talks are on going as to where the best place would be, on September 8th with a truck out there where your listeners/viewers and ours can drop off items. We can work out logistics as soon as we know who will join us. Fill up a trailer and move in another one. As many as possible. From all over the state. We welcome you and would like to extend a hand of kindness and brotherhood to you to join with us in this effort.

I look forward to speaking with you and thank you for considering this partnership,

Chris Scotland

A bit off-topic, but relative to Pre4ch3r's post. . .

Nazarene Disaster Response is an arm of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (specific website for Katrina information: http://www.ncm.org/news_katrina.html), operated by the Church of the Nazarene.

As a member of the Nazarene church, I can tell you that 100% of monies that this group collects goes directly to the efforts at hand. (There are no administrative costs, because the workers are volunteers and employees of the denomination, whose salaries are funded by the Church of the Nazarene's general budget, seperate from Compassionate Ministries' funds.)

This group is best known for its "crisis care kits," put together by local churches to distribute to those in need; these kits contain basic cleanliness items and usually a small toy. But, Disaster Response also sends teams to help with providing food, shelter, and support.

It's great to see a radio station teaming up with Nazarene Disaster Response, because of the fact that everything donated goes directly to the cause.

WMSJ has sent a truck to Pearl River, LA and it should arrive today. It's a great effort put together and the listeners and supporters of MSJ should be proud of their work. Not because of what they did but because of the amount of people who's lives are going to be touched through their giving.
