Opie and Anthony to 106.9

Announced this morning.

Billboard Radio Monitor first reported it as a rumor, speculating that O&A would replace Adam Carolla on Free FM 106.9. Now, they have pulled the article and replaced it with a more detailed piece that says O&A will be on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., following Carolla.

From BRM (http://tinyurl.com/zorlj):

No confirmation yet from CBS or KIFR on how their line-up will be altered, as the Radio Chick “Warm Up” show currently airs at 10 a.m., with her show continuing from 12 p.m.-3 p.m.

You have to wonder what Free FM is thinking when it is taking two shows from the Free FM in New York, and putting them in San Francisco, when neither of the shows is The Dog House (Jv and Elvis).

Everything is airing on tape delay anyways, so why not push Corolla into mid-days. The Dog House would then air LIVE 6-10, with an established and loyal fanbase and would be a great lead-in to whether it be O and A or Corolla.

The afternoon drive time shift is a mess. Scott and Casey--who?

They should just air Leykis live, cause who really listens to the radio at night anyways.

How fitting Shea Hillebrand is in San Francisco now--he can walk over to CBS and write "sinking ship".

Wow. You just used logic, thereby guaranteeing that -- because it actually makes sense -- it will never happen.

One of the problems is that there is too much consolidation (and too many revolving doors) at radio stations these days, so no one knows the full market. If you're busy keeping track of four or five (or six) stations, do you know that your own company has someone available that may have a built-in local audience?

Opie and Anthony? With all due respect, the only reasons they are getting any traction at all right now is:

1. CBS screwed up with "Free FM" Version 1.0;

2. CBS can't bring Howard Stern back; and

3. O&A are the best of the leftovers available.

Whatever.

I thought O&A had moved exclusively to satellite on XM? Did I miss something?

Welcome back.
A couple of months O/A developed a deal with CBS to replace DLRoth with a show (edited for your radio enjoyment) which would be simulcast on Satelite and certain CBS stations. Following their 'terrestrial' radio broadcast, they continue their show with an unedited/uncensored version for XM.

Following the deal with CBS, several other terrestrial stations have picked up the show.

Since they started at XM, they have signed a series of one year contracts (allowing XM to back out of the deal if necessary, I guess). The most recent one reflected their desire to get back on terrestrial radio, and a clause allowing them to also go on terrestrial if they got a deal was worked into the most recent contract. This is what I have heard.

Why don't they just flip 106.9 to top 40? They could be 106.9 KIFR #1 For Today's Hit Music. Or as country as Kickin' Country 106.

You know, it has been a while since someone posted a Top 40 or a Country flip. regardless of the fact that both formats dont work in SF.

Gotta admire the pluck though.

....because (at the risk of re-opening old discussions) - neither country or Top 40 have been successful in the Bay Area for 2 decades. If either format were executed and marketed differently than in the past, it could work (who knows), but I doubt there's anybody at CBS with the imagination to figure out HOW, and nobody who would want to stick his neck out to be chopped off if it didn't work. Besides, as the recent history of CBS/Viacom shows, they'll stick with a failed format and old ideas for years. As in ...."uh..gee...why don't we try Leykis again?"

top 40 did good in sf, just boneheadville took off 95.7 when hip hop was getting populur on top 40 stations

First of all....The Doghouse turned down the slot because of the delay. They want to go live and they should. This is so simple it hurts, they become the morning drive and stay on in NY 9am-1pm...A win-win for both coasts.
