Opie & Anthony Sign new Deal with SiriusXM. Radio duo Opie & Anthony announced on their show Monday (10/1) that they had signed a two year contract to continue with SiriusXM. By the end of the new deal, they will have been with the company for a decade, and will have been together as a duo for two decades. Opie says, “That would be a nice place to end it.”

Who are they? I'll tell you.... they are people who put on a show that their listeners actually listen to for more than 8 minutes at a time! A show where there listeners are actually LISTENING, not just toggling between pre-sets trying to avoid ads. They are people who actually have real conversations like real people, instead of focus group tested, PD directed, fake conversations about safe topics while they play their "character" instead of being who they really are.
They have a show where people are willing to pay to listen to them, I'd like to see how many jocks in Boston could get more than 10 people to pay a dime to listen to them.

They are actually doing what so many radio jocks wish they could do, have a REAL show about REAL things, not contrived "radio bits."

Wiki.:"One of Opie and Anthony's most notable Boston stunts was their staged giveaway of "100 Grand"...the "winning" caller laid into the duo with biting invective after he realized the repairs he needed to make to his truck would be un-affordable with a 100 Grand candy bar instead of $100,000.
The duo was fired in April 1998 from WAAF for an April Fool's Day prank involving Mayor Thomas Menino. Opie and Anthony told their listeners that the Mayor had been killed in a car accident while transporting a young female Haitian prostitute. Many believed the story, leading Menino to file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission, as the FCC prohibits the broadcast of knowingly false information if it causes public harm... Facing a possible license challenge, WAAF fired them, but Opie and Anthony promised that they would return to Boston and get revenge. During the early days of XM Anthony stated that the intent of the April Fool's prank was to allow the duo to be released from their contract with WAAF

Flashback: Liz Walker etc, on Ch 4: The O&A Menino prank. They said they felt bad that Angela
Menino had heard (second hand?) that her husband was allegedly dead. Mayor had said he does have a sense of humor but it crossed the line.
