Opinions concerning how Jeff Bolton is doing

I live outside of the KLIF listening area and I am seldom able to listen online during the day. Last week while traveling in Texas I took some time to listen to KLIF. I caught some of the last hour of Jeff Bolton on Thursday morning. Then on Friday afternoon while expecting to hear Jon David Wells, Jeff Bolton was filling in for him. In the relatively brief time I listened I became tired of his excuse of why he was pulling his shift (I believe Jon David has closed on a house, and instead of some guy from either Minneapolis or somewhere elsewhere who would not know anything about Texas, he was pulling the shift).
Maybe I should give him more time, but so far I am not impressed. The best one word description I can give is "ordinary." While it is one thing to refuse to put yourself on some kind of pedestal, the overly goofiness needs to go.

He's Austim level of talent but by what these companies put on the air today in Dallas it doesn't surprise me. Was that Greg Knapp I heard on WBAP the other night?
 
If I hear " I am just a middle class guy" one more time from Bolton I will scream. We KNOW your not a big earner, you're not good enough to be a big earner. We KNOW you are from Texas "one of us" we don't have to keep hearing about playing in some Garland high school team years ago....again and again.

At least they have dropped the "where do you come from, what do you do ? " crap. And started having guests too. Next the "stimulating" HAS to go. It's as tiresome as the "NEW KLIF" buzz word several years ago that outdid it's welcome. With the two "new boys" KLIF has become anything BUT stimulating.

Still, what do I know, I am just some "middle class" listener. :D

I had to stop listening to Hal Jay on WBAP back in May when all he wanted to do was sit on the fence about current affairs. Now, I have to stop listening to KLIF because Cume-less did as Cume-less always does - sacrifice quality for bottom dollar. They scraped the bottom of the barrel picking up those two yahoos. Sad for Dallas radio, great for satellite radio! ;D

I like the word "Stimulating" but it's not imaged right. KFI does it the right way. More edgy/bite to it. Dual imaging voices too. Female/Male

Oh...silly me. I thought they were saying "Simulated Talk," not "Stimulating Talk."

Now I get it.

Well, a lot of it seems more like simulated talk to me. But I am still listening...I will give it plenty of time. It does seem like things are getting a little better in some respects. Bolton is tackling more real issues and I like the idea of mixing in a little sports.

Wells is starting to grow on me a little bit. I have finally gotten past the voice...I guess maybe that's his real voice, not a "Ronnie Radio" voice. If so, I like it. I just thought it was a contrived radio voice at first.
 
No Dub....It's my real voice. I spent too many years as a singer/musician, and put too much "music" in my delivery. When I try to flatten it out, I tend to sound angry when I'm not....So I concentrate on the content and let the voice take care of itself.

JD, just a quick question being as you visit this thread. Why DO you appear most mornings on the Jeff Bolton show ? Are you trying to attract the morning drive listeners to your show or do you have to do it to support Jeff Boltons weak material ?

It seems most other talk show hosts want / have a life away from the station once they have put in a days work. Not being judgemental, or at least not meaning to be. Just curious that's all.

It's called cross-promotion. They're trying to expose JD to Bolton's audience and visa-versa.
 
Spinderella has it exactly right....We're cross-promoting. We're getting back to the basics, and then moving forward as an on-air team behind a great radio station.
