Oppenheimer out at CCR

The trades just announded that Morgan Bohannon will be the new MM for the CC cluster in Memphis. Morgan was the GSM of the Greensboro CC Cluster and was promoted to MM when the current MM went for alcholo treatment, he was then promoted to MM for Charlotte and later appointed RVP for Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, and a hand ful of other CC stations in that region. He is a good man but it may take more than just a good man to pull that cluster back together!

My understanding was that he was in Memphis back in the late 80's.....sued for sexual harassment several times. Good luck with that!

Never sued just accused Happens much too often that corporate covers butt, sacrifices a person and never seeks the truth.

I knew Morgan back in the 80's when he was a salesman and found him to be a decent man who worked hard at his job. I've known of him since regarding his advancements over the years and have not heard anything negative about him. I hope he is still true to his school and wish the best for the Memphis CC folk.

....never worked with Morgan, but met him on a number of occasions. Several of my good friends think highly of him. I wish him luck but I fear that his hands will be tied so much by the corporate bean counters that he'll be unable to do very much outside of what they dictate to him. Just his knowledge of the market will be a positive thing. I'm told that morale is at an all time low at CC Memphis......if he can change that he'll be fine. If not, the downward spiral will continue.

A MM for Clear Channel is nothing more than a glorified sales manager and follows orders from the home office. Actualy the business manager at a CC cluster has more athority!

Oppenheimer has ruined so many families to save his sorry ass. Michael has bad karma. How he sleeps at night knowing he destroyed people, makes me wonder. Hopefully it will come back to him. Daddy won't save him this time. Who says anything good about him?

Radiofamily! Do you personally know Michael? I have no dog in this hunt but often read comments from people with information based on hear say not fact. I do not know MO and can only comment on things that I hard read. CC is a very cut throat company and many things that he may or may not have done most likely came from up the food chain. I worked for CC some years ago and after we completed out budget projections for the year was told to increase the bottom line by cutting people. There was no certain area just cut your budget by xxx people to meet the new bottom line. Hard to say what went on inside those walls and until you walk in his shoes ...!

Nuffsaid: People always have a choice to do the right things and even more control over how corporate mandates are handled at the local level.

Have to agree with Molly...lots of people were put out to pasture as if they were useless, and what happened was that they lost some great talent. He could have fought for some of it, you know, but he was just one of the sheep.

I wished more of these big companies would go ahead and get around to going broke (sometimes, again). Courts shouldn't let them re-birth either. Flush them and start over. Flush several times to make sure all of it goes down the potty and we don't have any floaters.

The only people that count in Clear Channel are the ones that have skin in the game...ie Bain Capital, etc.

Now if you really think otherwise, well...really? Seriously?

For all the wonderful things that radio does, like give zillions of dollars to charities and the like, the only way that owners really care about all that is if, it brings more cash value to the company when they cash out.

Now more than ever, this is a business with only one purpose...to sell it for more than they invested and walk away with huge profits and no thought of the people left behind or wasted along the way.

For those that believe that the good old days of radio are gonna make a miraculous comeback...it's time to take your meds.

Or you can do what Crossno is doing at WXMX....get out and go to running smaller markets where real radio is still practiced and makes a difference.

I believe there's more live radio in Jonesboro than there is in Memphis. That's sad!

I agree with Snazzy Jazzy...more live local radio in Jonesboro than Memphis.
Is that a sad statement or what!

I have not talked to or seen Morgan in over 20 years but what I knew of him then was that he was a good guy and well liked. He spent time here in Memphis back when CC was still down on Beale St and he worked in Jonesboro for a while.

I wish him the best of luck here.

Yeah, and people think OIL companies are greedy! (Well, they are!)

The long tentacles of Clear Channel....

.....hit Memphis once again. While there are no reports of additional job losses at Thousand Oaks, cutbacks at other CC mid-market stations means there will be no more U-Turn Laverne on WREC. She is one of the latest casualties of CC greed at Nashville's WLAC along with a few others.

Somehow, I'll try to contain my emotions on that one.
